Up until last weekend, the belt belonged to Carl Froch, not anymore after Ward handed him a 12 round decision loss.

But now Dirrell, 27, wants his rightful shot at the title, but he may have to wait judging by some of the things that Ward has been saying about wanting to fight a rematch against Mikkel Kessler or move up and fight at light heavyweight for his next fight.

Dirrell told RingTV “I’m the mandatory for the WBC, and I want my shot. It’s as simple as that. If Andre’s got it, then I want my shot. He needs to either give me my shot or vacate it, because I want it.”

I agree with Dirrell. He’s earned the shot at Ward’s World Boxing Council belt and he should be Ward’s next fight. I know Ward was saying something about wanting to take it easy but he’s a champion now and there is no taking it easy once you have the title in your possession. Ward either needs to get out of the way and let Dirrell fight for it against the number #2 ranked contender St Juste again or he needs to fight Dirrell and take his chances.

I frankly don’t know who wins a Dirrell-Ward fight but I do think Dirrell will give him a lot of trouble to the point where we could see a draw or a close decision going either way. I can see Dirrell even knocking Ward. That’s how good Dirrell’s powers is, because he’s got better hand speed than Ward but hits a lot harder. He does everything that Ward does but has better power. I think Dirrell is a level above the likes of Carl Froch and other champions.
