Roach to work the mic for Povetkin-Boswell, Chisora-Helenius fights on EPIX this Saturday

By Chris Williams: This should be interesting. Trainer Freddie Roach will reportedly be working behind the microphone as a commentator for this Saturday’s fights on EPIX/EPIXHD.com for the heavyweight title fight between WBA heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin vs. 42-year-old Cedric Boswell and Dereck Chisora vs. Robert Helenius in Helsinki, Finland.

I never would have thought of Roach working a fight behind the microphone. The fights themselves appear to be mismatches. Boswell is really up there in age and has never fought a heavyweight in the class of Povetkin. The closest thing to Povetkin that Boswell has fought is 46-year-old Oliver McCall, who Boswell defeated by a 10 round decision earlier this year in March.

However, Povetkin is clearly a better heavyweight than McCall right now. Boswell is mostly a boxer, although he can punch a little bit. But he’s just not in Povekin’s class and this is merely a title milking fight for Povetkin. Boswell is ranked #14 by the World Boxing Association and they seem to know what they’re doing in ranking him so low. He’s just someone that was picked out by Povetkin’s team to ensure he gets an easy payday without risk.

Chisora, 6’1”, is too small to do much against the 6’6 ½” Helenius. Chisora likes to do his best work on the inside, but Helenius has a murderous uppercut that he likes to throw against shorter fighters when they try to come inside on him. Chisora is better off staying on the outside out of range and occasionally rushing Helenius to land a flurry of shots.

Chisora could get lucky, but I doubt it. Chisora already failed earlier this year against Tyson Fury, another giant heavyweight. Chisora gassed out after the 3d round and did nothing for the rest of the fight. I think Chisora will probably tire out early in this fight and end up getting knocked out.

Both Helenius and Povetkin will get wins. Only wish it was on ESPN or something else easy to find.

@ Otto Matic. If Chisora hits Helenius then he will fall. Helenius has never fought someone who can bang!! Look at his record. And don’t count Sam Peter, cos he’s a fat lump

you people who mock Roach , only wish you could have achieved 1/16th of what he has accomplished in his life. Here’s to hoping you are afflicted with such an awful thing at some point in your life, so you can look back and reflect.

roach better smoke a joint before fight night, so we can understand him

  • Otto Matic says:

Chisora can be in condition or not Helenius is by far the better boxer and will have little problems with the smallish African. Look for a one sided Helenius win with or without a knock out.

  • Fred says:

Holy moly, the Sutherland has written two articles that have nothing to do with Pacman and Mayweather. Maybe there is hope for him after all.
