By Gerardo Granados: I have been I boxing fan for many years now but what I had never witnessed an absolute insult for boxing fans as I have witnessed today. I have witnessed robberies committed in pro boxing and amateur boxing but this one I have never seen before.
I feel embarrassed for pro boxing, and I feel insulted for this heinous decision.
I know local decisions are a tradition in pro boxing, and just as I stated in a previous article I thought Marquez needed to win by knockout to get a win against the congressman Pacquiao but this is just ridiculous!
How come did Manny won?? I had it 119 -110 on my personal score card in favor of Marquez!! Juan Manuel Marquez schooled congressman Manny Pacman Pacquiao for twelve rounds and still lost the fight?
If Pacquiao still has honor inside of him he should recognized he was defeated, but he did not recognized it in the past so he won’t do it now.
I will admit I was drinking beer during the fight but I was not drunk enough to see Pacman win the fight.
If Pacman was a man of honor he should recognize he lost the fight period.
The fight judge’s decision was in insult for the worldwide boxing fans around the globe.
Cheers for the best pound for pound best fighter of the world and legit WBO welterweight champion of the world Juan Manuel “Dynamite” Marquez.

Pacman’s rlly good friend khan gave the fight to marquez too… pacman cried in the corner because he thought floyd wouldn’t give him a fight without that belt. even pacman fessed up to being beaten but HBO took the mic off during the first interview and then made him say otherwise. CRITERIA FOR JUDGES IN SCORING FIGHTS ON A 10-POINT MUST SYSTEM IS BROKEN DOWN AS FOLLOWS:
25% Effective Aggressiveness
25% Ring Generalship
25% Clean Punching
25% Defense
Lemme break it down so you clueless maytards can wake up and smell the juice:
Effective Aggressiveness, as defined by the A s s o c i a t i o n of Boxing Commissions, means “when a fighter presses forward and in doing so, scores more punches” are given more scoring weight. Last I checked Pac was the more aggressive fighter and that he landed more punches as a result of being more aggressive and initiating the action. CHECK – Pacquiao.
Ring Generalship – “the ability to control the pace and style of the fight”. Obviously, Pac was the one who pressed the action the ENTIRE FIGHT. If Pac had not thrown punches, JMM would have been content to sit back. There were several moments when Pac d e m o n s t r a t e d his in and out & side to side movement in order to open up punching angles. All JMM did was move backward and counter everything Pac threw. CHECK – Pacquiao.
Clean Punching – “A clean punch is one that lands on a scoring area (face or side of head, not including the back of the head; the front and sides of the torso) with the k n u c k l e portion of the glove.” Marquez did land some clean punches. But it wasn’t enough because Pac threw more and thus landed more. Watch the fight IN SLOW MOTION and you’ll see what I’m talkin about. All of the ignorant ones who claim Pac lost simply think that JMM landed more effective shots because of the reaction of the crowd every time JMM landed a punch. On the other hand, when Pac landed a punch, half the time people didn’t see it because it was too fast. But JMM’s FACE TELLS THE STORY as well as punchstats. CHECK: Pacquiao.
Defense – “is the ability to avoid punishment.” Pac landed more and thus received less punishment. Punch accuracy was virtually even but since JMM threw and landed less it means Pac was able to “defend” himself better. Just compare the two faces at the end of the fight. That tells the story. CHECK – Pacquiao.

There were no knockdowns or staggering in this third fight, hence the judges gave it to the fighter who landed more shots. Manny landed 40 more punches.

Last time I checked fights are scored round by round and not by total punches nor power shots totals. Every round is independent of the other. There is a diference. I don’t think fights are scored by the way you dance around either.

I have to side with Player on this one. You cannot win a fight by counter-punching. Pac was clearly the aggressor and he actually landed more. Stats don’t lie people. One just need to lose their hate on a particular fighter and then score the bout like the way it should be done. Check the punch statistics! Marquez did not win the fight! And Pacquiao is the aggressor on that fight, there is no way I’m going to give a win to a fighter that always moving back, unless he’ll knock down or out the aggressor. Another thing the challenger did not do enough for the steal.
We should not buy the Pacquiao fights anymore in protest of this decision. Pacquiao and Bob Arum can’t make money only with the Filipino community. They need the rest of us to keep packing their pockets with more money, but the rest of us are unhappy by this robbery decision.

This is a great case study example of how boxing is more show business than sport,manny was out boxed round per round, pound per pound. All contreversy aside pro boxing lost alot of fans last night and this Manny is no longer the undisputed champ , clearly a political decisión . I don’t understand how so many of us say, “that Manny should accept the defeat”, duh….were any of us in that ring getting beatup? NO! So a boxer does not accept defeat, but realizes that he could have done better. Now, Marquez worked harder than Pacman, but the champ always has the edge, which means, that working harder in the ring, or punching more does not beat the champ. Marquez, needed at least an 8 count or a knock down, at least for the Judges to see what we saw. No doubt The Champ got out box, but then the Congressman knows that too, and knows he does not need to do anything, but fight and stay off the floor, so he can continue to be champ. At least they went 12 rounds and gave the fans and PPV a fight, considering the other fights lately where I have been rob. But this is not the subject here. Maybe Pacquiao should give Marquez another rematch????

Well, boxing is a business 1st, an entertainment 2nd, and a sport a distant 3rd. If the fight was given to JMM, Pac-PBF although just a pipe dream at the moment, will make less money. In 2005, Erik Morales TOOK THE FIGHT to Pacman and BEAT him to the punch. Did you see pac’s face in that fight? That’s how you BEAT DOWN Manny Pacquiao.
Too bad Marquez isn’t as great as Morales.
And this is why Morales is more respected than Marquez by mexican fans. Morales FIGHTS. Marquez counters. That’s the bottom line.
The difference between Floyd’s counterpunching style and why Floyd will get decisions as opposed to Marquez’ counterpunching style is that Floyd ALWAYS shows ring generalship.
Marquez, even in some of the fights he wins, gets knockdown a lot and isn’t always dictating the pace of the fight. This is JMM’s greatest downfall and is why he isn’t considered a major prizefighter in the sport.

Last I checked, boxing has NEVER awarded a challenger the belt if he doesn’t TAKE THE FIGHT from the champion. And if you think Marquez TOOK THIS FIGHT, then I have to feel sorry for your confusion.
Marquez fought a great fight. But CLEARLY, he didn’t do enough to TAKE IT FROM PAC. And in this sport, the challenger has to PROVE that he wants it more by being the more aggressive fighter. Too bad marquez dropped the ball and failed to take advantage of a lackluster Pacman.

How come Trinidad defeated Delahoya although it was clear Delahoya had the more effective punches in that fight?

How come Frankie Randall defeated Chavez in ’94 although Chavez clearly had the more “effective” punches in that fight?
How come Cotto beat Clottey although Clottey landed the more effective punches in that fight?

i must disagree with the majority, first off i didn’t think manny looked good and i must say he didn’t win by 116-112 that judge must be banned from boxing.
i do think it was more like 115-113 it could be a draw it could be. i just don’t agree with people saying marquez won hands down etc etc.
from my perspective it seemed like marquez did land clean shots but not enough to win the fight. he landed alot on the guard of pac like the glove area or the elbows. pac landed more punches, not always as clean but he did landed the most punches.
ofcourse marquez and nacho claim he won the fight they have been robbed again. but that’s just ego talking. i’ve watched this fight twice now. and pacquiao won by a razor thin decision over marquez
Absolute disgrace! I had Marquez 117-111; there wasn’t a single round you could absolutely say was Pacquiao’s round whereas most rounds were easily Marquez rounds.
If they don’t overturn this decision I will be disgusted. I actually couldn’t sleep thinking sbout it. Sickest thing I have ever seen in boxing.
There is no doubt in my mind now that Mayweather would DESTROY Pacquiao if they were to fight – but I doubt Mayweather will even care about fighting him now – there are better fights for him out there. I personally am a lot less excited about seeing Mayweather-Pacquiao after seeing Pacman DOMINATED last night. I am still in shock at the result, I called it exactly but it was such domination I don’t know how they have the balls to say Pacquiao won. Unreal!

No robbery, Pacman won 8 rounds to 4. Were you guys watching part 2 or something? JMM was backing up the whole night, a lot of his shots were blocked and didn’t hurt Pacquiao at all. Marquez didn’t do anything the last 4 rounds.
At what we saw in the Screen, JMM may won by points. But boxing judges are professionals, so with the management.I Hope sooner or later we may be able to heard a clear explanation of this confidential fight from them. I am eager to know also about the rules in boxing especially in challenger and defender implementing regulations.

Manny Pacquiao is just the boxer, it was the judges who made the decision for the fight. Although Manny Pacquiao won the fight, he knows deep inside him that he lost that fight. I myself was not happy with the way Pacquiao fought and the way the decisions that declare him the winner. It was a different Manny Pacquiao that I saw tonight against a well prepared Marquez. I don’t think Pacquiao was prepared for this fight. With too much distraction during his training and too much confidence, I don’t think that he won it fair and square. This is my opinion.

Just tell Marquez to fight toe-to-toe in order erase all doubts and he can convince the judges and also being an aggressor.

as a boxing fan not a fan of both of them…..neutral! it was a close figth and I a saw it as a draw. I saw lots of fights, if you’re a challenger you have to convince the judge or knock the champion. So if it is a close fight usually the champion wins.
Marquez lost the fight for not having an aggressive and we are not the official judge and my decision is good as yours but I only favor Pacquiao in winning the trilogy.
It a very thin line encounter, the champion is the aggressor where challenger is waiting and stepping backward waiting for Pacman to throw.
Marquez never learned on the previous two fights that he must fight toe-to-toe in order to convince the judges but he never did by playing safe.

Alot of you pacquiao fans have no sympathy or heart, Marquez worked so hard to bulk up and he dominated the majority of the fight, landing more doesn’t mean you automatically win the fight as you can throw or land more in a given round but not overall. The thing is Marquez had to deal with politics tonight, I’m a big fan of both, but to see Pacquiao saying that he “clearly” won the fight, I lost my respect for him

I have to admit it but this was Marquez’s night. Terribly disappointed with Pacquiao’s performance. I thought Marquez won 8 of the 12 rounds, with 2 even rounds and 2 rounds where Pacquiao may have won. All in all, I can understand why Marquez is so upset by the result.
