Pacquiao says negotiations with Mayweather are underway: Is Manny on the same page as Arum?

By Eric Thomas: WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao revealed to the media in the Philippines earlier today that he’s in negotiations for a fight against WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. However, Mayweather said nothing about this in an interview yesterday and said he would be the one making an offer to Pacquiao when the time came. Pacquiao said to abs-cbn news “Negotiations are ongoing for my fight with Mayweather, but nothing is final.” Was Pacquiao just name dropping Mayweather’s name for attention from the media?
The Filipino fighter may have to drop his lawsuit against Mayweather if he wants to make that fight happen, and he also may have to do some convincing to his promoter Arum that the Mayweather fight is the wise move to make at this time. Arum is looking out for Pacquiao, and sees the money that can be made in a fourth fight with Marquez. There is a lot of danger in another fight against Marquez, to be sure, but a Mayweather fight could be the end of the road for Pacquao and his long winning streak. If Mayweather shuts Pacquiao out in a lopsided 12 round decision win, a fight against Marquez isn’t what it is now. Pacquiao perhaps should listen to his promoter Arum and take that Marquez fight, which is a much safer bet than facing Mayweather and possibly getting clobbered.
Arum knows what he’s doing in protecting Pacquiao and putting him in winnable fights. The Marquez fight is the smart move right now. The money is there and Pacquiao and likely beat Marquez again by throwing and landing more shots. It won’t be pretty and I see another close win for Pacquiao, but at least he’ll win. Mayweather is probably too good for Pacquiao and he could put a halt to Pacquiao’s run of luck.

To say that Pac did it on purpose would mean that they paid JMM off. No boxer would get in the ring and think I am going to look bad to get the fight with Mayweather. Pac just doesn’t do well with Boxers. He looked the exact same as he did in the previous two JMM fights.

Pac did it purposely, not fighting JMM the way he should have done (my own opinion) to get Mayweather interested. To make Mayweather think that Pac is now beatable. It was a bait for Floyd. When they both agree to fight and sign the contract and on fight night-bam!!! Floyd will see the real PAC. So vicious and deadly, fast and accurate. Floyd will eat power shots from PAC. Floyd’s shoulder rolls will be nothing. All Floyd will do is grab and run all night and will kiss the canvas whining and crying (ref, help me, can’t take it anymore).
FLOYDEXLOPED- Listen to yourself man, if you think Marquez’s shots are more powerful then Floyds you are HIGH. Again, twelve rounds to NONE. What fight were you watching man? If Pac’s shots couldn’t knock Marquez down what makes you think, for one, that they could knock Mayday down, two, if they would even land flush. You cant win a fight just “peppering” someone’s shoulder. Floyd’s strait right will land early and often, and Pac does not have the D to stop it.
Everybody can argue that Mayweather will beat Pacquiao based on his poor showing in the trilogy with Marquez! But all these are pure speculations. Nothing is certain unless it has happened. I say let the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight happen and see who will win!

Why should Manny drop the defamation lawsuit when dela Hoya already apologized because the golden boy does not have any proof? Does Floyd have any proof?
All of you band-wagon Pac fans must be blind. Pac may have won that fight, but he got his lunch eatin along the way by a fighter that Floyd made look completely inferior. Did any of you see the Floyd-Marquez fight? Doesn’t sound like it because if you did, you would say to yourself that Pac would, and will be destroyed by Mayday. Pac’s puppet master is the reason why the fight has not happened, and why it wouldn’t happen. Arum isn’t stupid, he knows what the outcome would be and that Pac’s stock would tank in the aftermath of eating leather for twelve rounds, if he would make it that far, at the hands of Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The megafight will not happen because Floyd will ask for at least 60/40 purse. Yes, you can commence negotations but there is no guarantee of agreement at the end of the day. But wait for PAC-MARQUEZ PPV results. It should be bigger than MAY-ORTIZ. And wait for Floyd to take that defamation deposition due by January. It’s going to be very interesting for Team Mayweather. Is this the reason why GBP is in hurry to have a deal done this year?

Manny Pacquiao has to make a move, but I didn’t imagine it is this sooner. Manny Pacquiao doesn’t make name dropping just to get media attention, much more in his own country the Philippines. In his country, his name is rank a little bit below the name of GOD (no matter what religion they are). It’s high time the two negotiate directly or time will run out of them. Manny Pacquiao hunger for competition is fading, thanks to his political and philanthropic involvement in his country and Floyd Mayweather jr is running out of decent challenger. If this fight don’t happen (as I always believe and I hope I’m wrong), both of them will loose there boxing charisma and that will be a big financial drawback on their boxing career. They needed each other like demons and angels or the Lakers and the Celtics. Without one, the other is done.

In my opinion, Pacquiao is trying to save face with his countrymen. He knows he lost the fight with Marquez and he is trying to put a lot of distance in the minds of people by playing the Floyd card. There is no negotiation going on, but Pacquiao is saying that because he know people will turn their attention to this rather than continue to pound them of how bad he looked with Marquez… is a smart move. But reality is that Arum won’t let that happen and he knows that.
If he fights Floyd, he could make $50 million or so, while if he fights Marquez he could make $30 million plus. If he fights with Marquez, he will bank those million and Arum will make sure he can’t lose, unless he gets knocked out. But other than that, he wins and then he fights Floyd and make more money.
If he were to go straight to Floyd, he can make those $50 plus but he will be done… there is no way he can beat Floyd. So Arum is looking at how much more money he can safely generate for Manny.
It kinda makes sense if you look at it from a financial prospective only.

Remember styles make fights. Marquez appears to be very skilled at boxing southpaws whereas Mayweather has shown weaknesses in the past, especially against the right hook of the southpaw. Mayweather says he doesn’t have a problem fighting southpaws but a win over a slow Ortiz does not prove that. The southpaw should stop the normal successful Mayweather pattern of throwing jabs against the orthodox and then leading with the right hand in the later rounds! I still have Mayweather winning this because his right lead is so good but don’t write off Manny yet!
Pacquiao doesnt fight scared so why would he be. He knows he is going to retire soon and I truely believe he likes to satisfy fans with exciting fights. I want Floyd’s and Arum’s response after Manny’s revelation that the negotiation is ongoing. If Floyd deny this, then why he does not want to negotiate, same with Arum. Pacquiao wants to know what’s on Arum and Floyd mind. He wants this fight. Filipinos want this fight, The world want this fight. Let’s get it on.
I am an ardent supporter of Manny Pacquiao, Manny should first clear his ring performance by a REMATCH with Juan Marquez. If possible, to win by KNOCKOUT OR STOPPAGE. If not, A VERY CONVINCING UNANIMOUS DECISION to halt the whole mess of CONTROVERSIAL WIN against Marquez. It is the only leeway to bring back his shinning performance.
Why does Floyd Mayweather want the filed suit against him by Manny Pacquiao to be dropped? For obvious reason: Mayweather cannot prove in COURT the alleged accusation and try to avoid the penalty of defamation. That’s very understandable from my point of view.
