By William Mackay: IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan worked the Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Manny Pacquiao fight as a commentator for Primetime PPV, and Khan shockingly saw Marquez as the winner in this fight, picking him as the victor over Khan’s good friend Pacquiao. That kind of tells you something when you’ve got Khan seeing Pacquiao as having lost this fight, as Khan has never saw Pacquiao losing in the past.
Pacquiao’s right hand was a non factor in this fight and it was like he was the same one-handed fighter that fought Marquez in the first two fights. Freddie Roach, his trainer, did a great job of teaching Pacquiao how to throw a right hand, but he wasn’t throwing rights in this fight for some reason. Marquez shut that weapon down completely.
Pacquiao was booed long and hard after the fight by the MGM crowd. The booing really unnerved Pacquiao, because he didn’t look at all comfortable with the constant booing while being interviewed by Max Kellerman from HBO.

Manny certainly threw far more power punches than Marquez. And Manny’s accuracy was superior. I suspect because people thought the fight would be more lopsided than it was, it affects people’s perceptions.
Hate to say it but I had little doubt that Marquez not only won the fight, but completely outboxed Pacquiao. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, pacquiao showed more aggression and threw more punches but I failed to see more than a couple of meaningful lands in the whole fight, where as Marquez landed crisp punches in every round. Think about it, every highlight between rounds was of Marquez, every commentator had Marquez up, even Amir Khan, a good friend of Pacs had Marquez winning. Roach knew it, Khan knew it, look at Pacs reaction after the final bell, he knew it, Marquez definitaly knew it. Marquez neutralised pacs attacks and countered effectively. Shocked by the decision untill I remembered it is boxing and money comes first.
it was very close fight but no way you can say Manny lost it was either a draw or manny won by a couple of rounds – Marquez was too defensive if only he was more aggressive he might have won and as for Khan talk about back stabbing his sparring partner !!!!! disgrace and am his biggest fan – Manny and his training team raoch have helped his progress soo much since his defeat and this is how he repays them.
I’m a fan of Manny Pacquiao but when your friend, training partner and stablemate says even he thought you had lost then there is really nothing else to say. After watching the fight again yesterday it is clear that Juan Manuel Marquez won and it was seven rounds to five in his favour, for me Manny Pacquiao won the last three rounds but at best could only possibly claim another two.

Pacquiao’s power punches had the force of sloppy jabs. The punches Marquez landed on pacquiao shook him on a few occasions,while pacquiao’s sloppy attempts at power punching did absolutely no harm to Marquez. Oh,i know,i’ll go watch the fight 10 times and in slow mo,then pacquiao’s sloppy of a mess punches will look a lot better.
“here’s the thing” is a bigger fraud than his countryman pacquiao. He’s trying to convince i don’t know who that mayweather’s style may not be suitable to expose pacquiao like Marquez has? Really? Mayweather is a younger,stronger,faster,(blacker) bigger version of Marquez. Mayweather won’t only counter pac,he’ll continuosly beat him to the punch with ease. By the 4th round,pacquiao will be hesitant to throw punches,as he keeps eating leather. He would easily and consistently have the right foot positioning to put pacquiao at risk and have him trip over himself.
I am finding it beyond pathetic how p.a.c.t.a.r.d.s. are resorting to rewatching the fight in slow-mo to try and convince themselves that their hero won. In another boxing sight these pac fans are resorting to using another phrase to describe clean punches,preferring to describe them as more visible punches. ex. Marquez landed the more visible punches,sounding more harmless than simply stating Marquez landed the cleaner punches. These p.a.c.t.a.r.d.s. are as hard to beat as pacquiao,arum,and his judges.
At first I thought Marquez won the fight too at scores of 115-113. But after reconsideration, those rounds which are pretty close is awarded to the aggressor or the champion of which marquez is neither. there are 2-3 close rounds and that should justify the scoring. Pacquiao is not the beast that we thought he would show up.

please explain the punch stats. since no one was knocked down in this fight, how effective were the punch stats? yes, people argue the first two fights because of all the knockdowns and judging error. fine, leave it at that. now, there are no knockdowns and no scoring errors. please explain the stats.
please explain how a veteran coach tells his pupil that he is winning during a championship round. remember de la hoya and trinidad? oscar danced just as marquez did in the crucial rounds and cost him the match.
please explain how marquez was able to land shots when he wasn’t moving forward for most of the fight. manny brought the fight to him and landed more shots. if marquez brought the fight to manny, marquez knew he would lose. so, he had manny bring the fight to him and manny landed more shots. watch the fight again and don’t count the punches. pay close attention to the person moving forward and the person moving backward. it would’ve been mayweather marquez all over again if manny didn’t bring the fight to juan. if you notice, juan brought the fight to mayweather and lost. he didn’t want to do that with pacquiao. yet, pacquiao brought the fight to a counterpuncher and still landed more shots.

At first, watching it live, I saw Marquez winning 115-113…One thing I noticed in replays was that, it should purely Marquez clean shots landing on the face of Pacquiao…However, when I watch the replay at a local station, it should both parties shots to each other, and I had it 115-113 to Pacquiao…Yes it was that close with 3 to 4 four rounds going either way..Overall, the swollen face of Marquez answered everything!

Compu results say that Manny landed more punches than Marquez. It is just odd to think that Marquez won. Leather that landed should count more. Two judges were good. The other one was blinded.

At the final bell, Marquez raised his hand in victory, whereas Manny walked back to his corner looking down at the ground shaking his head. That my friend tells us something about the fight.

marquez style is the most difficult for pacquiao, i agree to that but mayweather style is far from marquez because he is a warrior he’s not afraid to get hit unlike mayweather he is afraid.. i expect a fight against mayweather will not as difficult as marquez because floyd throws 1 punch when he counter attack…. unlike marquez when he counter attack he throws 3-4 punch combinations thats the only way to stop pac from his agressions… i dont think floyd can do that.. manny is still the best..
The decision is correct. Marquez as the challenger should be the aggressor and the dominant one and possibly knock pacquaio out to beat him. Remember the last two fights wherein marquez is the champion, pacquaio is so aggressive as a challenger and even knock marquez that why he earned a draw and a split decision respectively…. think about it guys dont be fooled!!!!!

you see what i see in the fights. people are so obsessed with beating pacquiao that every hit on him looks good. when manny hit margarito, it was expected. yet, everyone remembers margarito almost knocking manny down more than anything else in the fight. same goes for floyd. no one remembers how he hit mosley several times. they only remember how shane landed those right hands. i am glad to know that someone else focuses on both fighters, not just 1.

Each individual round gauges a fighters effectiveness in ’1′ particular round. Marquez won more individual rounds than ‘pacman’. Theories can be tossed around debating the decision of this fight, but at the ‘end of the day’, Marquez indeed won.

I’m Filipino and a Pacman fan. Today i agree that Marquez won by at least a split decision from judges (for me it’s 115-113 Marquez). My hats off to him. Pacquiao and Roach obviously did not do their homework scientifically. Marquez is technically superior. Pacman won the previous match-ups because of points from Marquez knockdowns. We dont hate Marquez or Mexican fans, please don’t hate us Filipino fans and Pacquiao also. I think, like many of us, it’s because of business…

i must disagree with the majority, first off i didn’t think manny looked good and i must say he didn’t win by 116-112 that judge must be banned from boxing.

Absolute disgrace! I had Marquez 117-111; there wasn’t a single round you could absolutely say was Pacquiao’s round whereas most rounds were easily Marquez rounds.

There is no doubt in my mind now that Mayweather would DESTROY Pacquiao if they were to fight – but I doubt Mayweather will even care about fighting him now – there are better fights for him out there. as a boxing fan not a fan of both of them…..neutral! it was a close figth and I a saw it as a draw. I saw lots of fights, if you’re a challenger you have to convince the judge or knock the champion. So if it is a close fight usually the champion wins.
