Cotto saying he’ll only fight Margarito in New York, fight in jeopardy – Boxing News!!

By Dan Ambrose: It seems that WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto is about to sabotage his December 3rd fight against Antonio Margarito by saying he’ll only fight Margarito in New York. I smell fear from Cotto.
Why does Cotto only want to fight Margarito in New York? This would be a hometown fight for Cotto, since he’s got a large Puerto Rican population in the area that would flock to see him fight. Is Cotto getting cold feet after seeing how good Margarito is looking? Cotto already took a bad beating from Margarito three years ago and took a couple of knees in getting stopped.
By saying he’ll only fight in New York, Cotto could be avoiding a second beating from Margarito. How disappointing. Hopefully, Margarito passes the eye exam and Cotto doesn’t come up with any new announcements that could screw up the fight.
Cotto is also still saying that he thinks Margarito beat him with loaded gloves in their last fight despite the fact that he has no proof to show that ever happened. Margarito was caught once with loaded gloves in the past before his fight against Shane Mosley but there has never been any previous issues like that in his past fights. Bob Arum, the promoter for both fighters, is reportedly very upset with the news about Cotto only wanting to fight in New York because he realizes this could jeopardize the fight from taking place.

NY has approved Margo’s eye. So the fight will take place at MSG. I cant wait for this fight. This fight has a little bit of everything a boxing fight needs to get the real fans pumped.
Can’t wait to see Dan’s excuses when Cotto retires Margarito.

Cotto scared!!! At end of day its cotto vs tony in the ring so what is cotto scared to fight out of new York??? Look at Salido he’s willing to whip Juan ma in Puerto rico again and Salido is the champ but let Juan ma call the shots. That’s the differnce between Mexican fighters and ricans all we need is heart we fight in ur back yard….
This fight is cottos if he stays with boxing and not poseing.Stamina is needed.
There is no need of previous issues, he should be banned for life.

Cotto is scared. He is afraid of what the Tijuana Tornado can do to him. I mean Margarito beat the fighting out him and made him quit.

Come on people!!! Let’s face it. This is boxing. I want to start by saying that this fight is going to be a K.O. for Cotto but is boxing and anything can happen. Let’s say this fight is close an goes to the score cards, who you think is going to win if the fight is in any of the other places mention by Top Rank. If is not NY why can they pick, Florida or even Puerto Rico. Is like telling the home team in any other sports to go play game 7 of the championship in the opponents house because they can fly in!!!!!
Cotto not scared…theres a huge pysycological difference if the fight was postponed/moved to another location where he has considerably less fans…and he has nuff $$ where the fight is about more than that @ this point. I understand how his inital response was ‘i wont fight him unless’…
Say what yall want about cotto but he’s far from scared of margerita,if u re-watch the first fight of cotto vs margerita cotto was trashing plaster man until margs hand wraps got wet once them illegal hand wraps got wet they get hard like ah cast that’s y when he landed that shout on cotto got hurt because the hand wraps started to kick in but if u notice in the first half of the fight cotto was eatin margeritas punches like nothin until the second half of the fight when them illegal wraps kicked in that’s the only reson plaster man won cuz he cheated!!!
@apbrooklyn. Why would cotto care about the venue. He is to get 5 million for this fight and a portion of ppv. Doesnt matter if its in a highschool gym. Not to mention its part of being a professional. I can understand not wanting to get on a plain a week before a match but three hours drive for five mill is ok. Looks like he has a way out and is taking it.
I told you guys from the get go that cotto was scared & was going to try to get out of this fight im not surpriced at all at miguels stance, he knows he cant hurt antonio at 153 if he dint hurt him at 147 too bad he sold out for 5 million dollars though & now he must take his beating like a man. antonio in 5!

I agree with Bryan D and dukeboxer, why should margo have any kind of advantage in a fight that is seen as his only big payday left? Cotto made sure he could get NY because they did Vegas last venue and in a way its his turn. I wouldn’t blame him in canceling even though I would be dissapointed because I really want to see this fight but not cottos fault. imo
Difficult to like Margarito , why would he suddenly load his gloves against Mosely IF he managed to dominate a prime time Cotto . Outcome is in the baance ,Pacman walked through both of them so it is a tossup

How is Cotto wrong for not wanting to fight somewhere other than the place they agreed to fight. What are the odds that Margarito only used loaded gloves once? You have no argument hear Ambrose. The fight is in jeapordy because of Margs not Cotto. Its not Cotto’s eye! What evidence do you have that Margs is “looking good”, What from training camp? Margs hasn’t looked good since he got caught. This fight shouldn’t even be happening, especially not on PPV.
This Ambrose character is a real piece of trash, Get a life you weirdo!!! All of his articles are Cotto bashing weird love triangle kind of stuff. At the end of the day if the commission feels he is unfit to fight then he’s unfit to fight I think Ambrosita should step in to take the fight and get the beating of his life.

Why would the eye test in NY be different than it would be in any other state? This sounds like pyschological warfare on Cotto’s part…
