Image: Cotto-Margarito II going for $54.95 on PPV this Saturday on HBOBy Chris Williams: I’m still debating whether to spring for purchasing the Miguel Cotto vs. Antonio Margarito II pay per view card on HBO on Saturday night.

I wouldn’t mind seeing it even though both guys are kind of long in the tooth and have seen their best days already, but the price tag for the card has got me backing off.

I just can’t see paying $54.95, which is what the fight goes for, to see a couple of old guys tangle. I don’t see Cotto as the best fighter in the junior middleweight division right now and haven’t for quite some time. And of course Margarito isn’t the best fighter in the division. He’s lost two out of his last three fights and is coming off of major eye surgery.

I don’t mind seeing old timers fight, but it’s not interesting to pay that kind of money to see it. To me, Cotto-Margarito is ESPN2 or regular HBO. I kind of like the undercard fights with Brandon Rios vs. John Murray, Mike Jones vs. Sebastian Lujan, Pawel Wolak vs. Delvin Rodriguez, but I don’t like those fights enough to toss away two weeks’ worth of gas money or three days of food for my family.

That’s just too much money for this fight. Wolak-Rodriguez is a fight between non-champions, and I don’t see either of those guys ever being a champion. Why should I pay to see them? Jones-Lujan is a mismatch, another soft opponent for Jones. Do I really want to pay to see that? Nope! Rios-Murray is also a terrible mismatch.

Murray just got knocked out by a Kevin Mitchell, a fighter that Michael Katsidis easily beat. This isn’t PPV material we’re talking about. I think this whole cards worth is incredibly inflated to the point that it’s absurd. Cotto and Margarito are old.

Cotto hasn’t even faced a good opponent in two years, and that was when he got whipped by Manny Pacquiao. He’s not the same fighter he once was and neither is Margarito. This is a glorified old timers bout with a price tag of $54.95. It’s not worth it to me.
