Image: Audley Harrison: I want Tyson Fury badBy William Mackay: 40-year-old Audley Harrison (27-5, 20 KO’s) says he really wants a piece of British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (17-0, 12 KO’s) right now.

Harrison obviously needs an important win against the young 23-year-old Fury right now to get back on the boxing map, as Harrison hasn’t fought since losing to WBA heavyweight champion David Haye by a 3rd round TKO last year in November 2010.

Harrison said this on his twitter: “I want him [Fury] bad.”

Thus far, Fury has been resistant to the idea of fighting Harrison for some reason, preferring to face little known opposition that few boxing fans have ever heard of or seen before. Don’t know why Fury doesn’t want to fight Harrison, but he might as well since he’s been fighting guys like Neven Pajkic, Nicolai Firtha, Marcelo Luiz Nascimento, Zack Page, and Rich Power in the past year.

I’m no big fan of Harrison, but he’s at a notch above those guys and much better known than any of them. Why Fury prefers to fight those guys rather than Harrison is beyond me. All I’m left to think is Fury is concerned about Harrison’s left hand power.

Granted, Harrison has problems with his chin, and letting his hands go in important fights. But when he throws his left hand with conviction against limited opposition, he’s dangerous. I think Harrison could potentially ruin Fury’s world if they fought. If guys like Firtha and Pajkic are hurting Fury, what do you think Harrison could do to him? I think he might wreck Fury’s big plans of getting a title shot against one of the Klitschkos.

Fury needs a fight against someone like Harrison to get him ready for a 2012 fight against David Price. You can’t go from fighting guys like Firtha and Pajkic into a fight against a puncher like Price. That would beyond stupidity. Fury needs to face a tall heavyweight that can actually punch and Harrison meets those specifics in part.
