Wright: Hopkins quit against Dawson

By Dan Ambrose: There’s been a lot of fallout from Saturday’s fight between WBC light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins and Chad Dawson and a lot of boxing fans still think Hopkins opted to quit in the 2nd round after he slid off the back of Dawson. Winky Wright, who helped train Dawson, thinks Hopkins quit.
There was a press release sent out on Saturday night showing that Hopkins had visited the California Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles and received an x-ray from Dr. Sam Thurber, stating that Hopkins was diagnosed with a separation of the acromioclavicular joint in his left shoulder.
This bit of news has been accepted by some boxing fans while others see it as a fake and don’t believe it for a second.
Some boxing fans think Hopkins got caught up in one of his flops and it turned bad when he overplayed it too long while on the canvas. Whatever the case, Hopkins hit the deck and he lost the fight by a 2nd round TKO. Dawson is the champion and he’s shinning right now and planning his first title defense against Jean Pascal.
The WBC or the California Athletic Commission could overturn the results and give Hopkins his title back, but Dawson still won the event in the eyes of a lot of boxing fans because he was the standing and Hopkins was the one on the canvas holding his shoulder.

Winky nice stinky career of nothingness. If Hopkins needed your inate opinions he would just beat it out of you.
For the record when Jean Pascal fought Diaconu he seperated his shoulder twice in the fight and never quit…Pascal had a full cast after the fight.Hopkins was back to his old tricks almost trowing himself on Dawson and it backfired on him. Bhop can retire
Hopkins usually starts slow and builds momentum later in the fight, and even in these early rounds, he outlanded Chad 11 to 7 shots, even landing 10/23 power shots compared to Chad’s 4/25 minus that slam

Yet Hopkins still looked bad and on his way to losing the fight. The injury likely sparred Hopkins a humiliating defeat while at the same time leaving him an avenue to keep his title when/if the WBC rules the fight a no contest
as winky wrong is the spokesperson for boxing and if his meaningless opinion counts for anything just like winks sad career.
the fall was not serious enough to injure a strong, fit fighter … BHop has gone old and brittle … time to quit man

How a man will continue to fight there is a doctor diagnostic afther the fight I dont think anyone will continue to fight in the condition,I use to like Winky Wright but I think he just got a big mouth,the way the fight was it will be an easy victory in the laters rounds with a UD no question about.

jus like ortiz got frustrated and couldnt git 2 Mayweather, chad did the same thing to Hopkins..and “blinky left” is a sore loser…Hopkins had chad in control and would of defeated chad (why is your name chad anyways..lol) unless he would of knocked out Hopkins which we all know wouldnt of happend…
I didn’t know all boxing fans were doctors and you said Winky helped Dawson so of course he won’t pick sides. Please everyone can be smarter than this.

As much as I respect Winky what he said is absolute garbage. If anything it looked like Chad purposely slammed Hopkins. Replays dont lie. Secondly it was only 6 minutes into the fight and neither fighter had done much so why would a hall of famer just quit. Can anyone name a fight Hopkins didnt finish. This just another Ploy to tear down another Black Legendary fighter.
