Alvarez’s promoter from Golden Boy Promotions want a name fighter for Alvarez’ s next fight and the struggling 31-year-old Cintron is the perfect opponent for Alvarez. Cintron has lost two out of his last three fights and doesn’t appear to be the same fighter he once was. This should be an easy win for Alvarez as long as he can avoid some of the rare big shots thrown from Cintron from time to time.

Cintron looked pretty awful in his last three fights against Paul Williams, Carlos Molina and Atwone Smith. Williams and Molina beat Cintron, but he was able to end his losing streak against fringe contender Smith.

This is a do or die fight for Cintron, as he can’t afford to get beaten yet again, especially by a fighter as young as the 21-year-old Alvarez. However, that’s likely to happen because Cintron has looked horrible as of late and hasn’t beaten a really good fighter since he defeated Alfredo Angulo in 2009. That must seem like a lifetime ago for Cintron because he doesn’t look like the same fighter now.

Alvarez defeated Alfonso Gomez by a 6th round TKO last month. For Alvarez, it was another soft opponent. Alvarez is being moved slowly against guys that he can handle by his promoters. They obviously aren’t in a hurry to throw him in with Angulo or Vanes Martirosyan despite the fact that he’s the WBC champion now and not just a contender.
Alvarez should be able to handle Cintron as long as he doesn’t run into one of Cintron’s big shots.
