Roach: Pacquiao vs. Mayweather needs to happen now; people are losing interest in the fight

By Chris Williams: Freddie Roach says he wants to see the Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. mega fight happen right now while both fighters are still relatively in their primes. Roach didn’t seem as anxious for the fight to happen last year when Mayweather was agreeing to weight penalties, glove sizes, and purse splits.
As I’ve said before, this is a fight that can be made easily if Roach and Bob Arum put pressure on Pacquiao to stay in the U.S for the random blood tests that Mayweather has been asking for a long time. It’s a pretty simple fight to put together as long as Pacquiao’s team are open to the full random drug tests for performance enhancing drugs.

i agree with roach, i do feel like there is a lower public intrest in the fight now than say 2 years ago, with flods cheap shot punch and mannys lackluster performance vs sholud be retired shane mosely, surely does not help build the stage for possible showdown

I know what the current governing body drug testing rules are, and that PacMan follows those rules,and that he has never failed a drug test. How can either of you be that sure if the rules changed to RBT that PacMan would take the test even if he weren’t fighting FMJ. You said it yourself that its his choice right?

and as I said it before, Chris. Why should Manny, move out of his comfort training camp? The idea that he trains in US for his fight is not because of USADA testing, it’s because Mayweather is a great strategist and would want to take advantage of the idea that Manny will be out of his comfort zone training.

To be honest, I no longer care if they fight. I am on record that had they fought 5-6 years ago that brash super confident Floyd wins by UD. If they fight now Floyd does not have that same brash confidence, he has also slowed down with age.
At at the same time, Manny has improved his boxing skills. He now has a better right hand, his footwork is better and so is his defence. He no longer has to strain to lose weight and is in much better condition. I believe with these factors that Manny wins by easy UD as Floyd will not engage. If he does he gets ko-ed or tko-ed.

Roach knows Pacquaio needs Mayweather that is why he cannot have a conversation without mentioning Mayweather, because he knows that only a victory over someone of Mayweather’s caliber will help to erase the doubts that many have concerning Pacquiao’s accomplishments. Not many are impressed.

I did have my doubts. We now have some kind of idea of how Manny and Floyd’s USADA test results should look like, should the fight ever take place.

For all those who keep saying Floyd is a Diva etc he’s trying to ensure a harder path to follow than anyone else has done before in boxing. A Diva by definition wants everything on a plate., not to make a situation more difficult. Who knows what the real deal is. Stooge Ellerbe was sent out to lie about there being no fight negotiations, but Arum and Oscar blew that out of the water and said that Mayweather ran away from the fight. I agree with Roach, this has been too long in planning and has gone stale.

Pacquiao does not need to prove he is clean in the eyes of the public. Manny has never failed any drug testing, so why do it? For Floyds sake? I don’t think so.
