Smith, 29, sees a lot of weaknesses that he can exploit in Groves’ game and believes he’s going to knock the 23-year-old Groves out on November 5th. While Smith was beaten recently by an awkward James DeGale, Smith knows Groves’ fighting style very, very well and he knows how to beat it.

Smith said “DeGale is an awkward fighter to face. When you get in the ring he surprises you with the shots he throws.”

So true. Smith never got comfortable with the multiple hooks that DeGale was throwing in the fight and even when he had DeGale backed up against the ropes, Smith continued to get hit over and over again by DeGale’s rapid fire left hooks to the head and body. Groves doesn’t fight anything like DeGale and fights more in the traditional British style. There’s no mysteries with Groves. The only twist that he includes is his running and feints that he likes to use. That kind of thing gave DeGale problems until he made adjustments by the 5th round of their fight last May, but Smith is well versed in that kind of fighter. He’s fought a lot of guys that like to run and use feints and he knows how to beat that style with pressure.

Smith said “Without a doubt, I can prevent this going the distance…I have prepared for a very brutal 12 rounds.”

Yes, it’s going to be very brutal. Smith is going to go after Groves, chase him until he runs out of real estate and then blast him against the ropes with scorching right hands and left hooks to the head. Groves is good at the old hit and run, but when you get him trapped against the ropes, he seems very weak and ordinary. He’s not as big a puncher as Smith and isn’t suited for the kind of brawling that Smith is made for.
