Image: Khan slams Bradley for choosing 40-year-old Casamayor to fight on 11/12By William Mackay: IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan isn’t pleased with WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley’s choice of opponent for his fight on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao – Juan Manuel Marquez fight on November 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Bradley will be facing 40-year-old former two time world champion and former Olympic Gold medalist Joel Casamayor (38-5-1, 22 KO’). Khan sees Casamayor as too old for the 28-year-old Bradley. Casamayor obviously was a really good fighter in his prime and has accomplished things that Khan can only dream of. However, Casmayor is very old and has lost two out of his last three fights, so it’s understandable why Khan might be making some noise about it.

Khan said this on his twitter about the Bradley-Casamayor fight: “Wow, Tim Bradley vs. Jose Casamayor? The guy is 40-years-old and ranked 30th. I’m sorry but he ain’t no Bernard Hopkins. I don’t know how Bradley gets away with it like this. Maybe because nobody cares about him. LOL. I guess the chicken crossed the road to fight Casamayor.”

Well, in fairness to Bradley, Casamayor at this point is still probably a better fighter than Khan’s last two opponents Paul McCloskey and Zab Judah. Khan has really been matched incredibly softly as of late against guys that are either ranked high, in McCloskey’s case, or hold a paper title like Judah did because of his win over the previous paper champion Kaizer Mabuza. Neither Judah or McCloskey are tough opponents, but Khan gets cover for facing them because of their high ranking. I don’t know of anyone that sees McCLoskey as a future champion and Judah is seen as a shot fighter. Khan really hasn’t fought a quality opponent since he took a beating against Marcos Maidana last December.

I think Khan is more than a little envious of Bradley, because this fight with Casamayor is really just a showcase fight for Bradley to wet the appetite of boxing fans for a Bradley-Pacquiao fight next year. Khan doesn’t have that option and has been pining away for a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr., with no luck, for ages. The chances of Khan getting a fight against Mayweather next year is slim and none. Mayweather is targeting a fight against Sergio Martinez next year and has the options of rematches against both Victor Ortiz and Oscar De La Hoya. Khan is in the backseat and will have to likely wait a long, long time before he’s even considered for a fight against Mayweather. The best I can see Khan getting right now is a fight against Andre Berto or Ortiz, which I doubt he’ll take due to the danger involved. Those guys can punch and they’d likely ruin things for Khan by knocking him out. Another knockout loss for Khan would pretty much end any hopes for a Khan-Mayweather fight in the distant future.
