Image: Kessler-Stieglitz postponed; Bute vs. Johnson still good for November 5th on ShowtimeBy Eric Thomas: Former IBF/WBA/WBO super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (44-2, 33 Ko’s) injured his hand in training, forcing the postponement of his November 5th fight against WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz until early 2012.

The Kessler vs. Stieglitz fight was supposed to be televised on Showtime as part of a time delayed double header along with a fight between IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (29-0, 24 KO’s) and Glen Johnson (51-15-1, 35 KO’s). The Johnson-Bute fight will go ahead alone on Showtime on November 5th.

It’s a good thing that Showtime booked the Bute vs. Johnson fight because that’s a strong fight and it can stand on it’s own without the Kessler fight. It would be nice if they had packed the card with some good fights, but it’s mostly local fighters that aren’t huge stars and are mostly known among hardcore boxing fans and local fans in Canada.

The undercard fights for the Bute-Johnson card are as follows: Pier Olivier Cote vs. Jorge Luis Terron, Kevin Bizier vs. TBA, Allan Green vs. Sebastian Demers, Steve Molitor vs. Sebastian Gaunthier.

As you can see, there’s not much get excited about there. Green, 32, has lost two out of his last three fights in the past year with losses to Andre Ward and Glen Johnson. Green did win his last fight against Craig Gandy by a 2nd round knockout last August. However, Gandy has a record of 7-4-1, a type of fighter that Green fought earlier in his career when he was working his way up the ranks and not someone he should be fighting after he already had established himself.
