The 33-year-old Taylor got his boxing license back by the Nevada Athletic Commission in September by a 5-0 vote. Taylor has passed all the medical tests to get his boxing license, and there was no abnormalities found. However, getting the boxing license back is really only the start for Taylor. He’s going to have to prove he can take some punishment without getting viciously knocked out like he’s been in three out of his last five fights in KO losses to Carl Froch, Kelly Pavlik and Arthur Abraham.

Taylor likely will have no problems beating the initial 2nd or 3rd tier opposition he’s lined up against. He always did have great offensive skills. The problem for Taylor was his chin and his stamina. Taylor sees his knockout losses, as well as his stamina problems late in his fights, as partly the result of him coming into his training camps too heavy. Taylor reportedly has had to use training camps to pare off over 20+ pounds instead of the camp being used to fine tune his boxing skills. But we’ll have to see whether that theory will hold water once Taylor is put in with guys that can punch.

Taylor’s career hasn’t been the same since he was stopped in the 7th round by Pavlik in September 2009. He took a lot of hard shots in that fight and really didn’t look the same in his subsequent fights.
