Image: Froch: Ward will have to trade with me or he'll loseBy Scott Gilfoid: WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch wants Andre Ward to come out slugging with him when they meet up in the Super Six finals on December 17th. Froch, 34, doesn’t like Ward’s defensive manner of fighting and is hoping the talented American comes out slugging instead of hitting and moving.

Froch said this to Sky Sports News: “I must let him [Ward] know how serious I am, and how powerful I am. That might make him run and hold even more, and if it does, it’ll be to his detriment. he won’t score any points doing that against me. His friend Andre Dirrell tried that and he lost on points, pretty much disgracing himself. He’s going to have to engage me, going to have to fight me at some stage.”

Ward doesn’t have to fight in a primitive manner to beat Froch, although I can understand why Froch would want Ward to. He wants to make it easy for him by having Ward fight in a style that suits him. That’s not going to happen, because Ward is a pure boxer who doesn’t waste time brawling. If there is any slugging from Ward it’s going to be on the inside where he’s the better fighter than Froch, and it’s going to be bad for the British fighter when it comes to that.

It’s not surprising really that Froch wants Ward to brawl with him because Froch had huge problems with he fought the Ward-like Andre Dirrell two years ago in a fight that was held in Froch’s home city of Nottingham, England. In what I consider an embarrassing performance from Froch, he hit nothing but air for the first four rounds while Dirrell picked him apart with laser like jabs and left hands to the head. Froch then turned the fight into an ugly foul-fest starting in the 5th round, while the referee just stood staring, doing nothing round after round to make Froch keep it clean.
