Eddie Chambers suffers injury, fight with Tony Thompson is off

By Allen Fox: Former heavyweight title challenger Eddie Chambers (36-2, 18 KO’s) experienced tightness in his back while training for his October 28th IBF elimination bout against Tony Thompson (36-1, 24 KO’s) and he won’t be able to fight on that date.

The bout could be rescheduled possibly, but their promoter Dan Goosen isn’t quite sure as of now. Chambers will have an MRI done on his back to determine the extent of the injury. In the meantime, Thompson is without an opponent for the October 28th date, and it’s doubtful that he’ll still fight on that date.

Both Chambers and Thompson have been knocked out by IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in the past, and it’s disappointing that one of them will soon be back in the position to fight Wladimir again because neither of them stands much of a chance to beat him. Chambers has fought only once since being stopped in the 11h round by Wladimir last year, beating Derric Rossy by a 12 round decision last February. Thompson, 40, was knocked out by Wladimir in the 11th round in 2008. Since then, Wladimir has improved whereas Thompson looks slower and more hittable.
