Anthony Dirrell targeting Froch-Ward winner

By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten super middleweight talent Anthony Dirrell (23-0, 20 KO’s) wants the winner of the December Super Six finals bout between WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch and WBA champion Andre Ward.

Dirrell, the younger brother of Andre Dirrell, is deserving of a title shot with his number #3 ranking by the World Boxing Association. He’s got the speed, the power and the same amazing boxing skills as his older brother Andre. But what makes Anthony interesting is he really goes after his opponents with the intent of knocking out his opposition instead of looking to just outbox them.

Anthony Dirrell needs one more fight by the end of the year, and then he’ll be ready to fight the Froch vs. Ward winner in early 2012. However, Dirrel’s chances of getting a fight against either of them might not be good until perhaps the end of 2012, because Ward has already made it clear that he wants to fight Mikkel Kessler next.

Froch, of course, won’t beat Ward, so it’s not really important what he plans on doing. But suffice to say, Froch won’t be fighting a blazing fast slugger like Anthony Dirrell either. Froch has been talking about wanting to fight Jean Pascal again. Why he wants to face that guy after the way that Pascal got spanked by Bernard Hopkins is the real question. I think someone needs to tell Froch that Pascal’s stock has plummeted since struggling against Hopkins in back to back fights.

Anthony Dirrell, along with Andre, are the future of the super middleweight division. It’ll be Andre Ward, and the Dirrell brothers holding onto all the titles by 2013. The only thing that will slow them down is just waiting for the champions to fight them.
