Image: Who could replace Matthysse, Jessie Vargas or Josesito Lopez?By Gerardo Granados: It has been reported that Lucas Matthysse pulled out of his fight against Erik Morales due illness or injury, and it is a real shame. The same thing happened to Marcos Maidana when Robert Guerrero injured himself, it seems like destiny won’t let boxing fans enjoy a couple of good fights.

Who can replace Lucas in such short time for the date of the fight; the replacement must be available, training, on the weight division limit and also high ranked by the WBC. It is like the promoters need to pull out a rabbit from a hat in a hurry to avoid postponing a lucrative fight on an excellent boxing card; the postponement could even affect the pay per view sales.

Both Jessie Vargas / age 22 (W16(9)-L0-D0) and Josesito Lopez / age 27 (W29(17)-L3-D0) are scheduled to fight on the under card on September 17, so obviously both fighters are ready to fight, they are well trained and must be close to the weight division limit 140 pounds already. I believe they are a good option for promoters to pick any of them as a replacement.

Maybe none of them are highly recognized by boxing fans, the name of Jessie Vargas got exposure when Floyd Mayweather Jr. stated that if Amir Khan wants to fight him then he had to fight against Vargas first.

Erik Morales has been highly criticized for been allowed by the WBC to dispute the vacant light welterweight title so it would be better to postpone the fight instead of letting Erik fight an unworthy opponent, so the name of Jorge Barrios might not be the ideal to replace Lucas Matthysse.

Josesito Lopes is ranked seventh by the WBC, fourth by the IBF, fifteenth by the WBO and third by the WBA, meanwhile Jessie Vargas isn’t raked in the top fifteen by any of the main boxing organizations; so I believe Josesito could be a legit contender and could be the most viable replacement, it would be a shame that boxing fans would not get the chance to watch Erik “El Terrible” Morales fight for the light welter title and become the first Mexican fighter to achieve world titles in four different weight divisions.

If the reader was the promoter, who would you consider being the best option to replace Matthysse; Vargas, Lopez or whom else?
