Image: Vitali destroys Adamek in 10By Dan Ambrose: Photo credit: Sumio Yamada – WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (43-2, 40 KO’s) made easy work of Polish challenger Tomasz Adamek (44-2, 28 KO’s), battering him for 10 rounds until the referee halted the fight in the 10th. Adamek was no match for Vitali’s jabs, right hands and left hooks and took an enormous beating in this fight. Adamek was just too small to do anything.

Adamek couldn’t get past Vitali’s jabs, as each time the short Pole would come forward, Vitali would spear him with one of his hard jabs and stop Adamek’s forward momentum. Towards the end of the fight, Adamek’s face busted up and he looked beaten even before the referee stopped the brutal slaughter. It was simply a man against boy in this fight.

Adamek was out of his element, and his bad habit of fighting limited shot fighters really seemed to hurt him in this bout. Who knows what Adamek might have done had he been fighting against quality guys for the past two years instead of the mostly 2nd tier guys he padded his record with to get to this level. But tonight he was not in the same league as Vitali. Perhaps Adamek can move back down to cruiserweight now and try to make a go of it down there. That’s about the only thing I can see him doing. He won’t be able to convince Wladimir Klitschko into fighting him, not after this dreadful performance. Adamek doesn’t have the charisma of someone like David Haye, so he can’t just talk his way into a big fight. He’s got to work his way there, and with his unwillingness to take on top fighters, I think this end of the line for him at heavyweight unless he’s okay with being a trial horse.
