Ortiz wants Pacquiao if Mayweather won’t give him a rematch

By Chris Williams: Former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz, his manager and promoter Oscar De La Hoya tried to make a case for a rematch between Ortiz and Floyd Mayweather Jr. today in a conference call. If Mayweather won’t give Ortiz a rematch, then he wants to fight WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao next. All I can say about that is don’t hold your breath waiting for that to happen. Pacquiao fights for Top Rank Promotions, while Ortiz fights for Golden Boy. Need I say more?

The call didn’t go well, as Ortiz and company at times seemed as if they were begging for a rematch against Mayweather. It came across as groveling and made Ortiz look bad. If there was any chance of Mayweather giving Ortiz a rematch it died with this phone call. If Mayweather listens to it, which he probably did, he was laughing his head off and probably feeling disgust for Ortiz at the same time.

De La Hoya said “If Mayweather has any honor he will give Victor Ortiz a rematch.”

It’s doubtful that will work. You’re not going to shame Mayweather into giving Ortiz a rematch. This was probably the worst way imaginable in trying to get a rematch with Mayweather.

Ortiz said “Floyd is not respected, never will be in my eyes as a pound for pound fighter.”

This was a pretty sad way of getting Mayweather back in the ring. If I was Ortiz, I would cut my losses and just move on without saying another word about Mayweather. He’s not going to fight him again, and Ortiz needs to accept that and move on. The sooner realizes Mayweather won’t be fighting him again the better off he’ll be.

Go ahead Victoria… go fight Manny.

  • The Bible of Boxing says:

If Manny takes that fight I will jump off his bandwagon. Why? He can’t let Floydiva believe he is facing only his leftovers he must face Martinez first because he now agreed to meet in the middle at 150.

Victor wasn’t ready for Floyd & he’s not ready for Pac either.

  • Foreal says:

Pacquiao would have hell fighting Ortiz.

  • Jedi says:

I would really like to see Ortiz fight Cotto. That would definetly be an exciting match up. The welterweight division is the best in boxing now because of the talent in it. Many good match ups can be created in this division.

    1. Mayweather did not THROW any elbows
THERE IS NO NEED FOR IT. HE IS THE ONE WRITING THE SCRIPT!

    2. Ortiz was not coming on
THAT WAS PART OF THE SCRIPT!

    3. Ortiz was not landing a lot of shots he only landed, 26 in 4 rounds
    THAT IS MAYWEATHER.

    4. Mayweather was timing, countering, and hitting Ortiz with flush shots
    YUP, IT IS MAYWEATHER.

    5. Ortiz was using his head from the first round
    LITERALLY!

    6. In the sequence on the ropes before the butt, only one punch in that flurry landed, and it was a glancing left
DID I SAY, THAT IS MAYWEATHER?

    7. Mayweather slipped, blocked or parried most of the flurry, then put his hands on Ortiz’ shoulders, and snickered at him, then slipped two more shots, at which point Ortiz got frustrated and headbutted Floyd
WHO WOULD NOT BE FRUSTRATED! MAYWEATHER WHISPERED TO HIM “IF YOU DO THAT AGAIN, THE DEAL IS OFF!”

    8. On the call Ortiz claims that the first left hook didn’t hurt and that the right hand didn’t hurt, it just caught him off guard, yet he failed to make the count
YUP, IT DID NOT HURT. HE DID NOT GET UP FOR THE COUNT SINCE HE SAW AN OPPORTUNITY TO THROW THE FIGHT.

    9. There’s no money in a rematch of this fight
IN BOXING YES. BUT IN WWE ORTIZ MAY STILL HAS A SHOT OF MAKING MONEY AFTER HIS PERFORMANCE.

i also suspect the fight is fixed because it is very unusual. why should ortiz do the headbutt several times, why should he hug several times, and why cortez should give instruction to the time keeper. the timekeeper should know that already, and why too much time was consume by cortez to do that? he can do it while his eyes is focus on the players. those events are very very unusual.

  • Floyd Bading says:

    @24 day cutoff

Yup watched both fights….and yup May-Ortiz was a fixed fight!

  • Floyd Bading says:

Ortiz does not belong in boxing!
He needs to move to WWE after his acting on the last fight!

  • paul says:

Quitter Ortiz is worse than a Turtle Clottey. At least Clottey did not give a MYSTERY SMILE after losing.

  • 24 day cutoff says:

@ whoevr thinks the fight was thrown
watch that fight and then watch the pac/clottey, then post which fight was fixed

  • 24 day cutoff says:

pac wont fight him and top rank has nothing to do with it. pac wont fight him because he knows he would lose to the bigger ortiz easy because his defense is shyt and he hates bodypunchers

  • amde shogun says:

lets see if Pac-man fights a young fighter-you might be to young Ortiz

  • Keep it 100 says:

Real men follow their words. More respect lossed. Like I said PANCAKE! always flipping.

  • a few things to note says:

Oscar is just mad because, Ortiz was supposed to be the second coming of the Golden Boy, his next cash cow, and now he is nothing, Pacquiao would hurt this kid

  • a few things to note says:

Ortiz is a quitter, and I’ll never spend another penny to watch him fight, or should I say give up

This would be a backyard alley brawl!

  • Natanael says:

Other loyal fighters give chances for a rematch but why mayweather had to denie

  • JOKER says:

IF ANYONE IS GOING TO BE LAUGHING ITS GONNA BE PACQUIAO AT HOW SCARED MAYWEATHER IS BECAUSE WITHOUT CHEAP SHOT MAYWEATHER CAINT WIN

  • JOKER says:

ORTIZ NEEDS TO SLAM MAYWEATHER EVERYTIME HE GETS INTERVIEW BECAUSE MAYWEATHER SAID HE WILL GIVE ORTIZ A REMATCH IF MAYWEATHER DOESNT HONOR HIS WORD HE WOULD LOOK LIKE THE BIGGEST PU$$IE AND CHEAP SHOT CHEATER

  • g says:

after ortiz was paid by floyd to do what he was supposed to do, now he wants another paycheck

floyd might still be fuming over the headbutt, but that may be all part of the script, so don’t be surprised if we see a rematch .. i don’t know if we see joe cortez in the rematch, but then again, who can predict floyd’s moves

  • the real kev says:

ortiz would give pacquiao a run for his money… maybe pac will finally fight somebody who jabs and isnt slow… but i dont think itll happen… ortiz is younger than 34

  • manu di bango says:

don’t play the vicious, be vivious like mayweather! ortiz is a stupid kid, he need to stop wathing tv reality shows and grow up

Instead of pacquiao, he should Berto for the IBF belt. But I think he has a good chance against pacquiao.

  • PU-C says:
