Mayweather will be at his usual brutal best against Ortiz: Don’t bet against a stoppage victory

By Dallan O’ Donnell: Photo credit: Sumio Yamada – In a true underdog story, the underdog comes up trumps. He defies all the odds and becomes a true great in a matter of seconds and becomes the people’s hero for years to come. This fight could define Victor Ortiz or it could crush him.

Ortiz has everything going for him too. He is bigger than Floyd Mayweather; he is quick and has huge power punches which have seen him knockdown all his opponents at least once. There are many reasons why Ortiz could beat Mayweather, but in reality we could add up all the stats in Ortiz favour and it would still matter little.

Fighting Floyd Mayweather and talking of fighting Mayweather are two very different things. He will systematically break Ortiz down round after round. I do expect Ortiz to be dangerous and competitive for the opening rounds at least.

It is up to him to show us if he can hold on to his WBC title and defy the odds, which naturally are heavily in favour of Mayweather. It is just another huge fight for Mayweather another day at the office, he has been here before.

The world expects him to win. This is different territory for Ortiz. This will be by far the biggest night in his Boxing career and he could be forgiven for having stage fright. But after the bout i hope he doesn’t use any excuses should he lose. Take it on the chin move on and come back better than before.

He is still young enough to do it. I can see Mayweather stopping Ortiz at some point too. He will break him down, and take the fight out of him before stopping him like he did Hatton. Ortiz has a similar style to Hatton. He likes to be the aggressor constantly coming forward and although he has more power than Hatton, it is this recklessness that will cost him the fight.

Ortiz is not hard to hit. Just ask Marcos Maidana and Andre Berto who have dropped him before. This doesn’t bide well especially fighting the most accurate puncher in the world. Mayweather will win, laying the gauntlet down for Manny Pacquaio come November when he takes on Juan Manuel Marquez. Don’t forget to follow me on Twitter: @dallan09

    Bob got y’all all tricked he’s a smart man they don’t want the fight they using Floyd as tool to string manny into the upper crust. If you think he’s better than mayweather you are nuts! On top of that Ortiz wasn’t ready for this level and I never wanna see a Ortiz fight again he’s not discipline and looses his head and he got what he deserved. There’s like 6 different stipulations for manny but only one for floyd…..take the test flat out if he was about it the fight would have been made.

    ortiz by majority decision

    Brutal?? When? Where? Lttile neegah gonna get hurt tonight.

  • Harry says:

    Floyd is on sueity pudin,get him tested.

  • robotronic says:

    I dont recall floyd being very brutal in the ring, but he can squirm like a rabbit.

  • Anonymous says:

    superpactard, if floys loves bloated fighters like you ALWAYS say Marquez, why is Manny god now?

  • lupu lupu says:

    @elboricua

    Manny and I are bed mates and what you say about his balls and member is not true. I can testify to that….

  • Floyd's On Roids says:

    @elboricua

    You need to stop your fascination on Manny’s balls, and stop fantasizing about him!

  • elboricua says:

    I’ve heard that continuous PED use has caused gradual shrinking of Manny’s balls and member. The side effect is that smaller balls has lead to him being afraid of taking a test to fight Floyd…..you see the smaller balls make you insecure.

    Manny wife file a domestic lawsuit against Manny. She claimed that Manny balls and members have become so small that she is no longer a happy camper when making sweet music with the Pacman.

  • Floyd's On Roids says:

    @the real kev

    I was actually referring to how many blood withdrawals were performed between both fighters.

  • the real kev says:

    @floyds on roids

    theyre always released after the fight

  • Floyd's On Roids says:

    For all we know, Floyd’s ROSBT never took place! Not until all of the test results are revealed to all boxing fans!

  • floyd loves bloated fighters says:

    why are floydiots so bothered when manny agreed to rbt???

  • ladygaga wipper says:

    floyd will win period!!!ortiz will quit in the 6 or 7th round.like he did with maidana and peterson and almost did also vs berto.

  • the real kev says:

    im glad everyone is already making the excuses…. if ortiz wins its because hes young and hungry…. if floyd wins its because joe cortez is the ref or the fights fixed or because hes “running” its called boxing people…. nobody wants to get hit if they dont have to…. why cant people admit hes the smartest most elusive fighter we’ve ever seen point blank…. let the excuses roll

  • boxing fan says:

    its a rip off!a side contract is happening here!im not gonna pay for this fight!no way jose!

  • Boxing Kangaroo says:

    Are the rumours true? Is it just me or did Oscar De la Hoya look like he’s been snorting too much of the wacky tobaccy on the recent 24/7 boxing specials promoting the Ortiz / Mayweather fight?

  • Theezenutz says:

    Why is it that Mayweather has to be the one, that’s scared to fight Pacquiao. It takes two to tango and either one of them could make the fight happen, if they really wanted too.
    Neither of them is scared it comes down to money and politics as usual.

  • the real kev says:

    @lady gaga

    lol ok im glad you think so

  • ladygaga wipper says:

    hey real kev: cotto, margarito, clottey,are much better then (rip) corrales , baldomir, de la hoya ,castillo , gatti etc etc

  • DeadScared says:

    Brutally SCARED, you mean?

  • joe says:

    Ortiz is just too inexperience and lacking defense to be fighting Floyd

  • cc8 says:

    @ lee b…

    You should post at any Chris Williams/Dave Lahr article. I guarantee it will never be deleted and there’s a big possibility you will be a considred as a good friend by those two.

  • the real kev says:

    @the truth

    how is ortiz going to ko mayweather and he couldnt even KO berto?

  • the real kev says:

    @gee

    gosh dude your stupid what he means is coming off a win that isnt a tune up… tune up fights arent what people are talking about here…. and cotto shouldve lost to clottey btw

  • the real kev says:

    @jackson

    only 4 good fighters and no great fighters? if hes fought no great fighters than neither has pacquaio because hes fought the same ones after mayweather…. unless youre telling me cotto, clottey, and margarito are better than shane mosley, de la hoya, diego corrales, arturo gatti, jose luis castillo, victor ortiz, JMM and so on? get my drift

  • dawgfather says:

    Mayweather is hardly a big puncher he will win on points if anything, but if ortiz tags him in the way sugar did hes in trouble,

  • Lee B says:

    This site blocks any anti Mayweather posts. Pathetic

  • jackson says:

    if they go toe to toe, mayweather will lose, by the way. he cant punch, he doesnt have fast hands. he is a very talented runner, who is good at getting other fighters off balance.

  • jackson says:

    there are drugs to screen the drug test for testing positive. it is all politics. the drug tests are useless. they dont work for the olympics…..they dont work. manny had done better against the same fighters mayweather has fought….that cant be disputed. the only black american fighter who has been a success recently has been mayweather….so we pretend he is great. he isnt. he has only fought 4 decent fighters in his career and no great fighters. leonard would knock him out. hagler would knock him out. duran would knock him out. the list goes on.

  • jackson says:

    if you think packy is a mindless brawler you know nothing about boxing. and tyson was a brawler and it was very scientific and effective, you just have to be more knowledgeable about boxing to realize it.

  • the rabbit says:

    I won’t be surprised if Mayweather K.O’s Ortiz & viceversa :)
    too bad Ortiz couldn’t get more money …

  • lacem up says:

    Floyd will knock out Victor, end of story. Just like he would ko Manny Pacquiao! Mindless brawlers that only know how to fight one way. A good brawler can not compete most times with a great boxer…

  • the bad says:

    Check on his handwrap, there might be some illegal in it.

  • the bad says:

    Does floydie hits harder than berto, maidana, mosley, margarito, and cotto. If not, he’s in trouble. Ortiz will just walk over his punches. Ortiz by KO.

  • jjk1234 says:

    C’mon….Mayweather in a U.D. If they actually go toe to toe and fight, Mayweather will KO him as well. More hype leading up to a PAC fight. I will pay whatever the cost to see that one. (Not holding my breath)

  • GEE says:

    @Bounce says:
    Fact: Manny Pacquiao has NOT fought a fighter coming off of a single win since 2001. 2001!!!!!! –

    FACT : MARQUEZ IS COMING OFF A THREE WIN STREAK BEFORE FIGHTING MANNY IN NOVEMBER.
    FACT : COTTO BEAT CLOTTEY BEFORE FIGHTING MANNY!

    FACT : MARGARITO BEAT ROBERT GARCIA BEFORE FIGHTING MANNY!

    FACT : HATTON BEAT MALIGNAGGI BEFORE FIGHTING MANNY

    FACT : DE LA HOYA BEAT STEVE FORBES BEFORE FIGHTING MANNY

    FACT : DAVID DIAZ WAS COMING OFF A FIVE WIN STREAK BEFORE FIGHTING MANNY…

    Do you want me to go on?

  • butterbean says:

    I’m watching the fight at my brothers house who lives across the street from me, I’ll also be getting the fight at my house so I won’t have to miss any action if I go home for some unexpected reason. wouldn’t miss this fight for the world!!!!!!!!!

  • Brutus says:

    The words – “brutal”.., “stoppage”…, and “Mayweather Jr” do not belong in one sentence.

  • Sai for Prime Minister says:

    anyone in the uk paying for this? As Hard as I try I can’t justify it, Primetime’s coverage is poor and you have to sign up through the website.If sky had it I’d struggle not to press the red button for 15quid. chasin round for a stream will be hard the Money will be putting a stop to that. What’s time does it all kick off does anyone know?

  • Niels says:

    I don’t care to see these average guys with the size of a softice salesman fight, I wanna se the 240 pound monsters fight, and that just the way it is, admit it fellow fans.

  • Niels says:

    Really, I don’t understand anyone cares to see these two boring fighters in a boring division. Little guys, Maywheather is BORING with a boring style, the division is a cheap replacement for the heavyweight division. The americans don’t dominate the heavyweight division due to the Klits being superior, therefor they call it boring, now they watch these little boring guys instead.
    Floyd = BOREDOM AND OVERRATED IN A BAD DIVISION

  • LUCIFER says:

    Heck saying Ortiz is inexperienced compared to Mayweather is like saying Holyfield was inexperienced when he fought Foreman who had 70 fights.

  • Foreal says:

    Flod doesn’t have to knock out Ortiz, he can always dominate him like he does all the time. Floyd’s knock out ratio is not bad either. We know Floyd not because of his power (which can be enhanced artificially) but because of his an paralled skill. Sit back and enjoy.

  • simon says:

    this is the fight between the aging and not in active in the ring for almost 1.5 year,,, and the other one is young and not much experienced fighter. who will win? i hope the result will not show their weakness.

  • mamuts says:

    The only sensible post i read here was by anonymous when he stated that Mayweather won’t ko Ortiz. I have to laugh at those saying Ortiz is like Hatton,and Mayweather will ko him. Every fighter who is able to ko someone has to have ko punch,Mayweather doesn’t,and he has to take risks,which Mayweather doesn’t. This will be a decision victory for either fighter; that’s the smart bet. If this fight fails to go 12 rounds,a clash of heads if more than likely the reason for it.

    Error: Floydie’s Leftover and not Mosley’s leftover

  • WTF FLoydiots says:

    @J Kay
    PAC disposed of JMM before Floydie fought him at a catchweight. So in fact he was facing PAC’s leftover. Let us be clear about that.

    JMM is getting his retirement pay in November against PAC after JMM’s never ending plea for the fight. AGAIN, let us be clear about that.

    PAC KO’d Mosley in the third round and was in survival mode after that. Same what happened to Clottey and Margarito after tasting PAC Power. Floydie almost got KO’d in his fight with Mosley.

    So PAC fared better fighting Mosley’s leftover. How about Floydie fighting PAC’s leftover in Cotto, Clottey or Margarito (Who are all active) and see if Floydie can outdo PAC.

  • hard-hitta says:

    @bounce
    huhu he juct cant accept that a ”midget” ia the true kick of the ring..not his hero fellow negro maynever..sorry sore loser..you gotta live with it..pacquiao is the best…

  • J-Kay says:

    Hatton – Loss to Mayweather
    Cotto – Loss to Margarito
    Delahoya – Loss to Mayweather

    and

    Margarito – a brutal Loss to Mosley (and the stones removed from his gloves)

    Mosley – Loss to Mayweather (and Mora)

  • money? says:

    you’ll be kissing the canvas tomorrow night!

    No more Manny Pacquiao fight for you, only in your dreams!

    MIDGET? this man stands the tallest of you all!

  • J-Kay says:

    @ WTF….,

    “A decision against a slow and bloated JMM. A decision against Oldie Mosley”

    And who fought Mosley, and is going to fight JMM after, emphasize, AFTER, Floyd beat them? LOL!!! If Mosley was old when Floyd beat him, then you, even you, should know that he was even older when Pacman fought him.

  • gahdlei says:

    Guarantee victory floyd. Look forward too the postfight comments!

  • Bounce says:

    @Anonomous:

    Hatton – Loss to Mayweather
    Cotto – Loss to Margarito
    Delahoya – Loss to Mayweather

    GO HOME MIDGET…

  • WTF FLoydiots says:

    Funny about the Drug Testing on this fight. There was no mention of any drug testing on the media or on the HBO 24/7 unlike the last Mosley fight.

    the TAKE THE TEST TAKE THE TEST theme of the Mayweathers has been out of the picture with ORTIZ. Is the drug testing done up to the night of the fight or is it 21 days before the fight ( as with Mosley). Who knows?

    WTF

  • You says:

    i heard pacquiaos house was broken into. i bet mayweather had his thugs break in to try and find power pellets. sorry floyd! you should be the primary suspect ur getting desperate now

  • ChrisGago says:

    Take cover Floyd as Ortiz power punches will rain upon you. If you’ll be hit by one, game is over. Floyd’s jello chin and lady-like punches will be his nemesis.

  • WTF FLoydiots says:

    You can JMM. JMM had 4 victories before losing to the PACMAN.

  • WTF FLoydiots says:

    Ricky had two wins in as a jr welterweight (his best weight) before being KO’d by PACMAN at a jr welterweight. Ricky had to fight Floydie as a welterweight.

    Oscar De la Hoya had a victory over S Forbes before losing by TKO by PACMAN.

    Clottey had a win over Cotto before losing to PACMAN.

    So the myth of PACMAN beating a fighter coming out of a loss remains a myth.

    @ Midgets lend me your ears

    By that I guess you think all supporters of Pacquiao are Filipino lmao. A typical naive way of thinking from a Fraud Maynever fan.
    I am a boxing fan, but prefer Pacquiao over Maynever. Yet I am not Filipino or a midget. Bang goes your theory lol.
    Oh and just to blow another of your theories, I expect Fraud to win by UD.
    See you sunday N!G@a

  • Bounce says:

    Fact: Manny Pacquiao has NOT fought a fighter coming off of a single win since 2001. 2001!!!!!!

    Manny Pacquiao is the biggest joke since knock knock!!!

  • Midgets, Lend Me Your Ears says:

    All of you that are hoping and praying for an Ortiz win, I ask that we meet Sunday morning, here…same place same time. Ortiz will take a career changing whoopin that he will never forget. This fight will kill Ortiz’ confidence.

    See you Sunday Midgets…

  • WTF FLoydiots says:

    Two fights since coming out of seclusion

    A decision against a slow and bloated JMM (cheated in the weights in the process)

    A decision against Oldie Mosley (almost got knockdown in the process).

    Now sixteen months of inactivity (same as Oldie Mosley when they last fought, see the rust in Mosley).

    What can I say. An upset is due and this would be good for Floydie for him to get back to reality. No more “0″ record to defend.

  • polo says:

    dont think oriz will connect early at all. no skills. just a head hunter. floyd will destroy this kid.

  • Anti hater phaser says:

    Floyd is a BOXING terminator sent from the future. A cold blooded calculating BOXING machine. Ortiz at 147 will make millions. No shame in losing to Floyd. Besides, the Mexicans been upsetting everyone. Floyd will shine. Come the 18th, I predict atleast one Phillipino cross dresser will drown in a rice field. LoL

  • Everybody's undefeated till they get beat says:

    Victor will walk thru Mayweather’s shots easier then he did Berto’s.Mayweather has one KO in the last six years.Floyd is in TROUBLE.

  • actually youre wrong says:

    Ortiz would be easier to knock out, than Marquez because of the style he fights, when you have a come forward fighter like Ortiz, the damage is increased as he’d be likely to walk into a punch

  • danman says:

    dangerous fight.we are going to find out just how good is floyd mayweather.i appluad him for taking this fight and ortiz should be grateful.he could have went strait to manny.floyd is giving him the largest payday of his life.he really should be grateful.as far as the outcome,talk time is over.this fight could define floyds career.if he gets knocked out or get beat up,they will say,see ,he never fought nobody.very dangerous for him.i hope he proves to be the man he says he is.

  • SME says:

    Good article. I think you are spot on here. I think Ortiz will connect with some good punches early although I don’t think he will have the skills or experience to finish Floyd off. Ortiz will get frustrated swinging at air and Floyd will start picking him apart with his punching accuracy and expose Victors lack of defensive skills as the rounds go on.

    I also think it will be similar to the Hatton fight with a knock out coming in the later rounds. Should be a great fight though..

  • CounterPunch says:

    @Anonymous

    I agree with you, if he couldn’t stop a blown up Marquez, he can’t stop Ortiz.

  • Anonymous says:

    This is not just another fight for Floyd. He is older and out of the ring for about a year and a half. He is fighting a younger and stronger fighter in years. I don’t care how fast Floyd Slaps those mits, there is no power behind them. Floyd might win by decision but I guarantee he will Not knock victor out.

  • Banana Man says:

    UD 4 floyd
