Mayweather to make $25 million, Ortiz $2 million, Morales $350,000 tonight
By Jason Kim: Photo credit: Sumio Yamada – Floyd Mayweather Jr. is going to make far more than his opponent WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz on Saturday night in their showdown in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather is getting a guaranteed minimum of $25 million, which can go as high as $40 million depending on the pay per view numbers. In contrast, Ortiz, 24, is getting only $2 million for the fight.
That’s good money, but it’s far less than what Mayweather is getting. It looks like Mayweather has sucked the money out of the card in terms of getting the lion’s share of the revenue. And take a look at what some of the fighters on the undercard will be making:
Erik Morales $350,000
Pablo Cesar Cano $100,000
Jessie Vargas $100,000
Joseito Lopez $30,000
The good news for Ortiz is if he beats Mayweather, he’ll get a much bigger payday in the rematch that occurs between them. I still doubt Ortiz would make as much as Mayweather in a second fight under those circumstances but he’ll do a lot better next time, if there is a next time.
