Image: Matthysse will end Erik Morales' title dreams by knocking him out out September 17thBy Dan Ambrose: Erik Morales (51-7, 35 KO’s) has been living off his old name for the past year during his comeback, and looked pretty average in all of his four fights since staging his comeback last year. Lost his last fight against Marcos Maidana, and I thought he should have lost two others in addition to that one.

Morales did fight well at times against Maidana, but still lost the fight. On September 17th, Morales, 35, has been given the chance to fight Lucas Matthysse (28-2, 26 KO’s) for the vacant WBC light welterweight title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Matthysse himself has lost two out of his last three fights, but at least he has an excuse be clearly should have won both of those fights against Zab Judah and Devon Alexander, but was naive enough to think he would get a fair shake by going into those fighters’ home town. But on September 17th, he’s Matthysse is fighting an old and struggling Morales in Las Vegas, where he should be able to get a fair decision if it comes to that.

I doubt that Matthysse has to worry much in this about judging because I think he’s going to attack Morales’ soft body and take him out. Morales has been sporting some flab around his midsection since he made his comeback last year, and no matter how hard he trains, the blubber is still there coating his sides.

None of his opponents have been wise enough to go for Morales’ midsection but you can expect Matthysse to do just that because he’s an excellent body puncher, and we could see Morales hitting the deck over and over again like DeMarcus Corley did in his eight knockdown loss to Matthysse last January.
