Kessler-Stieglitz: Easy win for Mikkel on November 5th
By Eric Thomas: Former super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (44-2, 33 KO’s) isn’t taking any chances that he’ll get back on the top to win another title, as he’s decided to take on what many boxing fans think is the weakest of the super middleweight champions Robert Stieglitz (40-2, 23 KO’s), on November 5th at the Parken, in Copenhagen, Denmark.
It’s not that Stieglitz hasn’t fought a lot of fights too, but his opposition has been very average to say the least. Stieglitz has fought only a half dozen fighters that you could call decent, but none of them are anywhere close to being in the same league as Kessler. Stieglitz was stopped in the 8th round by Librado Andrade in 2008, and while Stieglitz has improved remarkably, he’s still almost the same fighter he was when he was dominated by Andrade.
That’s not going to be good enough to beat Kessler, even if this isn’t the same version of Kessler that fought so well between 2005 and 2008. He’s older, but he’s still heads and shoulders above Stieglitz in this fight. It’s likely that Stieglitz’s training team has watched Kessler’s loss to Andre Ward and his struggles to beat Carl Froch, and noted the kinds of things that Kessler has problems with. However, it’s unclear whether Stieglitz has the weapons to take advantage of those weaknesses or not. I don’t think he does. Stieglitz lacks the quickness and power needed to worry Kessler. As such, look for Kessler to dominate this fight until stopping Stieglitz around the 8th round.
