McKenna (McJack): Ricky Hatton in an interview with BBC Radio Live 5 said that he believes fellow Brit World Boxing Association (WBA)/International Boxing Federation (IBF) light welterweight champion Amir Khan (26-1, 18 KO’s) is ready for boxing superstar and new World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26 KO’s).

“Money” Mayweather is fresh off of his September 17 controversial 4th round KO over former WBC champ Victor Ortiz (29-3-2, 22 KO’s) while “King” Khan scored an impressive 5th round KO over former IBF champion Zab Judah in July.

The former British sensation Hatton is a two time former world champion who lost just two of his forty seven fights and is now focused on being a trainer after giving up on the dream of making a comeback. Hatton was KO’d by Mayweather in the 10th round in December 2007 and by Manny Pacquiao in the 2nd round in May of 2009.

Hatton acknowledges that his full speed ahead style of fighting was made to order for Mayweather but feels the taller Khan’s approach would give Floyd problems.

Hatton was quoted as saying that “Amir’s style would probably suit against Mayweather more than my style. I was always 100 mph and in your face, and that’s probably tailor- made for Mayweather, whereas Khan has good height and reach, good hand speed, and is good on the back foot.

“Mayweather likes people to come at him so it might be difficult against someone like Amir who backs off.”

Khan’s next fight will be against Lamont Peterson (29-1-1, 15 KO’s) in Washington, D.C. on December 10.

Amir who still fights at light welterweight has indicated that after the Peterson bout, he wants to move up to welterweight and after a two or three more fights he wants a match with Mayweather.

Khan has openly questioned whether Floyd will duck him as he believes he has ducked his good friend and stable mate Manny Pacquiao. Khan’s trainer Freddie Roach said a couple of months ago that he thought that within two years Amir would be the best pound for pound fighter in the world. Khan brought Roach on board after he suffered a one round KO at the hands of Breidis Prescott in September 2008. Khan’s relationship with Roach has gone very well and he has never looked back. Amir’s career has far eclipsed that of his conqueror Breidis Prescott.
