Donaire-Narvaez: The next Pacquiao shows his stuff on October 22nd
By Chris Williams: WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (26-1, 18 KO’s) defends his title for the first titles for the first time on October 22nd against the short 5’3″, 36-year-old WBO super flyweight champion Omar Andres Narvaez (35-0-2, 19 KO’s) at the MSG-Wamu Theater in New York.
It’s never a good sign when you see a champion fighting guys from the division below their own. I see that as a cherry picking move and one to assure that Donaire is the bigger guy in this fight.
Donaire is considered by many to be the next Manny Pacquiao. I don’t agree. I think Donaire is much better skilled than Pacquiao is now and light years ahead of him in talent when Pacquiao was 28. However, Donaire lacks the ruggedness needed for him to be the next Pacquiao.
I can’t see Donaire moving up to featherweight, super featherweight or lightweight and having the kind of success he’d had here. Juan Manuel Lopez, Orlando Salido and Yuriorkis Gamboa would destroy Donaire at featherweight and Adrien Broner would do a number on him at super featherweight. And at lightweight, WBA champion Brandon Rios would knock Donaire out with ease.
But I do see Donaire dominating the smaller Narvaez on October 22nd. Narvarez doesn’t good even at his own weight, and it’s going to be a mismatch in him moving up to fight Donaire, who is four inches taller than him at 5’7″.

Donaire will NEVER be the next Pacquaio. He is an AIRHEAD! Hope he loses.
Alot of contradictions in your article. You my friend is confusing me.
I really don’t see how can Narvaes win this fight, however, he is skilled and I do can see him lookin good even against Donaire, and thats all he need really to get world respect, cause with so manny disadvantages, It will not be a shame if he lose.
WWEFloyd – Donaire’s savvy enough to withstand Juanma’s pressure and has the strength to knockdown or even KO Juanma due to the latter’s lack of defence. Juanma got KD a few times en route to KO wins in the past.
If anyone’s a threat I believe it would be Gamboa as generally he’s the better all-around fighter compared to Lopez, but then again I think he (Gamboa) has plans to move up in weight.
@ kAMOTE Why did you post that in here? It has nothing to do with this subject. Next time don’t.
Berto accused Ortiz for taking PED
Jean Pascal accuse Hopkins for taking PED
Typical sore losers right? but atleast they fought…. LOL
Floyd accused Manny for taking PEDS, again typical sore loser
to think they havent foght yet, floyd already lost the battle LMAO
Donaire is actually more skilled than Pacman. he has counterpunching. But im tired of him fighting lil guys who dont stand a chance. not even on paper
Arce is a veteran well experinced boxer but he’s too short for Donaire.
Donaire doesn’t seem to be getting his due in the press. That’s a shame because he’s VERY good. While Gamboa has drawn a fan base for being exciting and powerful, I think if these two were to meet Donaire would school Gamboa, picking his weak defense apart.
The next Pacquiao? LOL Donaire has twice the Boxing brain & skill of Pacquiao……Gamboa will beat him though.
I would like to test Donaire against Gamboa.
Donaire vs Gamboa…Whats up??!! why do we gotta BEG for these damn fights over and over…Promoters man…geez…peace…
This guy donaire is way too overated! I saw him get exposed about 5 fights ago by a short panamanian!
Nonito loves midgets.
do not be surprised if “Hurricane” Narvaez pulls an upset
haters are pushing Pac to fight much bigger guys and crying that Donaire is fighting smaller guys.. tsk tsk!
Nyeh!
