Dirrell wants Sergio Martinez or Lucian Bute next

By Scott Gilfoid: Andre Dirrell (19-1, 13 KO’s) was forced to pull out of the Super Six tournament last year after being horribly fouled Arthur Abraham last March. Dirrell was on the brink of fame at the time he chose to pull out of the tournament.

But now after a little more than a year off Dirrell is eying fights against IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute and WBC Diamond middleweight champion Sergio Martinez. Dirrell is interested in fighting both, but will likely only get a crack at one of them. But that’s all it will take for him to show his stuff.

Dirrell said this to esnewsreporting.com: “I would love to fight Sergio Martinez, but not at 160. If he goes down, he can come up. He’s big. I was face to face with him one time. If people think I run, I’m going to show a good boxing stye. Let Sergio Martinez get in there with me and we can find out. Either way it goes, if it’s Bute or Sergio Martinez, whoever it is, I’m ready to get in there and get this row started. When I’m back you’ll know.”

I would favor Dirrell over both Bute and Martinez. Those guys are made for a blazing boxer-puncher like Dirrell, who would have them hitting air all night long. Martinez loads up too much with his shots and wouldn’t be able to land against Dirrell. And Bute, with his over-reliance on throwing telegraphed uppercuts, he’d be dominated by Dirrell and embarrassed.

Martinez would have to overcome his fear of fighting a super middleweight for a Dirrell-Martinez fight to take place. You can’t expect Dirrell to have to trim off 8 pounds to fight a fight happen against the smaller Martinez. It won’t go like that. If Martinez wants the fight, which I have my doubts, then let him put on a little extra weight to make the fight.

Hitting air? Dirrel got hit by both Froch and Abraham, Martinez and Bute have faster hands then these two.
LOL at the telegraphed uppercuts..I get that’s why people get KTFO by Bute’s uppercuts because they are telegraphed. BTW: In the Maggee fights the commentators dint know where Bute hit Maggee, they had to look at the replays to see that it was actually an uppercut to the head that’s how fast it was!

andre dirrell stank ttingham out when carl froch beat him.soon as froch landed in round 2 drrell ran all night long alot further than lionel richie ran.as for the abraham fight that was 20 months ago scott not a year like you say and soon as arthur landed and floored dirrell the ref gave him help saying it was a slip and by that time dirrell was out of gas so took the hopkins way out and faked injury.dirrell nowadays makes money sparring for novices like george groves who im told roughed him up for $200 a day.he will never fight again and thats that.he had the chance to fight ward but faked injury yet is sparring all time.his mental issues are shot so he will continue to keep making babies with his wife and claiming welfare.i notice that dirrell calls out martinez who is #3 pound for pound why dont he call out dawson at 175 pound as hes a dr shaw high fighter.?he too scared thats why.

  • Bern says:

It seems the Dirrell team have still failed to address the issue of courage

  • Bern says:

Well thats a good start, he wants Martinez to put on weight to fight him after already giving away a hieght and reach advantage…who is the champion here?!
He’ll want to fight in his own back yard too.

  • Hugues (Montreal Boxing) says:

And to be fair about Direll, he has the potential and talent to become a champion. But his lack of heart and constant whining when he gets hit is some thing that he needs to completely change. About the Abraham hit, I give Direll the benefit of the doubt, but not about him being brain damaged after this hit. What he really has, is fear. And until he tosses up his lack of heart, he’ll never be a champion, and will always also be ignored by other champions.

  • Hugues (Montreal Boxing) says:

And as far Martinez goes, why would he go up one division and be one of the smallest Super Middleweight out there ? He’s a the middleweight champion! why would he do such a favor to Direll, who’s not even close to become a champion!

  • Hugues (Montreal Boxing) says:

It’s amazing that some one like Direll whos hasn’t fought since Abraham, can talk so much! Bute doesn’t telegraph by the way. He reads his opponents movements better than any boxers I’ve ever seen. Bute’s uppercuts always seem to be telegraphed when we look at the replay, but how come his uppercut never miss? Direll would just be going to the canvas like everu body else because he’s making the same mistake that every other fighters did against Bute. He’s underestimating him.

  • Gus says:

Bute will knock out Dirrell!! Bute is the next mayweather

  • good walker says:

Sergio Martinez or Bute can beat Dirrel and probably knock-out him with one hand only, and before the 5th round … Dirrel / Ward, Americans clowns !!!

  • Jedi says:

Dirrell, you are a very good fighter and I see you being champion one day but I don’t think your ready for Martinez just yet. Not that I think Martinez is all that but I think you should have a few more fights first to improve your overall skills, get some more experience, then you will be ready for anyone they put in front of you.

Sergio Martinez: “So, Andre Direll wants a piece of me? I only want to face welterweights! These super middleweights keep knocking at my door….Maybe I’ll move down to junior welterweight!….Wait! How come nobody wants to fight me? It’s because they’re scared! I’m the most feared boxer on the planet now!” That’s right I’m the middleweight champion of the world! And you welterweights and jr. welterweights are scared straight to accept my challenge?” “If any of you super middleweights try to challenge me ever again, I’ll move down to lightweight!”

  • ste says:

removing comments because you are a pathetic loser with no life and your virginity in tact…………pathetic.

  • Anonymous says:

Scott, nobody wants to watch Dirrell, he’s a coward!

  • Sax says:

Not a bad fight for Martinez at a catch weight. might bring some real money if its promoted right. And Chavez, Canelo, Mayweather, and Manny arent saying his name and he needs big fights. Bute is holding out for winner of super 6

  • silvercat says:

Wait a second. I shouldn’t call someone a noboby. That’s me actually. Sorry Andre

  • silvercat says:

dirrell is a nothing a nobody a clown stunt kid fakes an injury. my head hurt. like a black gets a headache. LOSER

  • Kid Azteca says:

    Speaking of mental midgets.
I guess Dirrell’s back has healed.
    Go fight Ward.

  • realboxingfan says:

I should say the best fighter Dirrell has beaten legitimately. Anyone with a pair of eyes not named Gilfoid could see Dirrell was at the point of running for his life when Abraham made that big mistake.

  • silvercat says:

why would a great champ lower himself to fight a welfare dwelling meaningless dirrell? dirrell is not accepted in the USA.

  • Chunky23 says:

Is he still fighting? I thought he was in Hollywood acting now. buhuhuhu

  • realboxingfan says:

Why in hell would bute or Martinez lower themselves to fight Dirrell? Who has he beaten? No one. Thats who. A DQ win over Abraham when he was on his way to being knocked out? The best fighter Dirrell has beaten was an out of shape Tony Hanshaw whom, I personally know, did not hardly even train for the fight yet Hanshaw still managed to come out and knock Dirrell down and almost out in the first round before immediately running out of gas from total lack of conditioning.

  • silvercat says:

dirrell has to move to uganda the US doesn’t want him or his free loading brood of welfare rats.

  • showboat208 says:

Martinez needs to man the f k up and move to 168….I’m a huge SM fan but its nothing at 160 or 154….Glory,fame and MONEY is at 168 for him…Floyd and Manny will never fight him he’s too dang big…..He doesn’t have much time in the sport

  • Andyk says:

Why would Martinez fight Dirrell, he offers nothing, hopefully i will never have to watch Dirrell fight again, he has a style which could put the most dedicated boxing fan into a ringside coma. Dirrell claimed he got badly injured by Abraham, made an almost miracle like recovery, and wouldn’t fight Ward.

  • wth says:

hey i’m shocked that he would want to fight those guys, I mean Direll i only seen him fight twice he got some skills but he must really be confident in him self to call out both of them guys, b/c they can fight too.

  • silvercat says:

dirrell is finished as a fighter no one wants him HBO or showtime or ESPN

  • Jayden says:

who did Bute fight? i believe Dirrel could take him

  • silvercat says:

dirrell has more trash hanging around him than a garbage dump. old man ugly wife and 15 losers probably druggies unemployed.

  • ATrueBoxingFan says:

Any of you guys think Dirrell is a bum obviously have ZERO knowledge about boxing. Go join a local gym learning the basics get a few fights under you belt. Then you will rethink so of the crazy things that come out of your mouth. Next everyone will be saying that Manny would KO Andre Ward. Please guys go learn this wonderful sport of boxing.

does dirrell still have the horse faced wife that looks like a race horse? 3 foot long face that belongs in a bag of oats??.

  • Duran's the man says:

Martinez afraid of Dirrell?? Bute telegraphs his uppercuts??

Too bad running backwarks is not an Olympic sport cuz that’s something Dirrell would actually be good at.

why would Martinez move up 2 supermiddle 2 fight someone who hasn’t even got a world title? the fight would have no benefit for Sergio. If he was moving up to supermiddle there is far bigger fights for him than dirrell!

  • everybody's an expert says:

Make it happen, I would love to see him fight either one of those guys!
