Dawson, 29, previously fought Adamek and totally dominated him by a 12 round decision in February 2007.

Dawson beat Adamek with ease in that fight in one of Dawson’s easier wins in his career. Recently, Dawson has expressed interest in moving up to the heavyweight division to see if he can make a go of it at the level. He figures that if Adamek can find success at heavyweight then he should as well.

But as far as Adamek getting by Vitali, that’s improbable because Vitali is a much better heavyweight than Adamek is. In looking at Adamek’s resume, he seems to have gotten the shot against Vitali by mainly taking on weak heavyweight opposition instead of the cream of the crop. Dawson needs to keep this in mind when he sees Adamek finding success at heavyweight. To be sure, Adamek is winning but look at the guys he’s facing: 42-year-old Andre Golota, 38-year-old Kevin McBride, 38-year-old Michael Grant, and 36-year-old Vinny Maddalone. These are fighters that Dawson would also likely be successful against if he were inclined to move up to heavyweight.

Dawson fights 46-year-old WBC light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins for his title on October 15th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Hopkins started off as the favorite to win this fight, but a lot of boxing fans and writers are starting to think Dawson will have too much skills, speed, youth and size for Hopkins to win. Dawson is a style nightmare for Hopkins with his boxing ability and quick hands. He’s not the type of opponent that Hopkins has done well against in the past. Hopkins succeeds against fighters that fall into his traps by trying to wrestle with him on the inside.
