Image: Arum says we will not run after MayweatherBy John F. McKenna (McJack): In the continuing and seemingly endless mental war between the Pacquiao and Mayweather camps, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum has fired off the latest salvo.

In an interview with Associated Content on Tuesday Arum said the following:

“We are not going to run after Mayweather. If the Mayweather fight is available and if he is serious to fight Pacquiao, I’m sure we’ll come to an agreement. But, so far, what he has done is duck Pacquiao. Everybody has to make his own decision. If Pacquiao and Mayweather end up never fighting the sun will still come up in the morning.”

Over the past few weeks Arum has made comments which are apparently designed to apply pressure and keep the ball constantly in Mayweather’s court. Almost every day Arum is quoted in the press making remarks related to a potential Mayweather – Pacquiao bout.

Contrary to Mayweather’s public comments Pacquiao has said that he has no problem with random blood testing.

Arum has long voiced the opinion that Mayweather is ducking Pacquiao so that he can maintain his undefeated record. Arum had been the promoter for Mayweather’s fights until they went through a nasty divorce. Mayweather raised Arum’s ire when he made the remark that he was being paid “slave wages”. Another bone of contention was Floyd’s refusal to fight Antonio Margarito, a fight Arum had been pushing for.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. (41-0, 25 KO’s) will enter the ring for the first time in sixteen months on Saturday night to face WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-2-2, 22 KO’s) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. It is thought by many including Pacquiao that Floyd chose to fight Ortiz because he is a southpaw as Manny is.

WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (53-3-2, 38 KO’s) will fight his long time nemesis WBO/WBA lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (53-5-1, 39 KO’s) in their Trilogy on November 12. The venue for the Pacquiao – Marquez fight will also be the MGM Grand.

The first two Pacquiao – Marquez fights ended in controversy. The first fight in 2004 was a draw even though one of the judges admitted later that he had erred in tabulating his scorecard. The error deprived Manny of victory in the fight. The 2nd fight in 2008 was equally controversial when Pacquiao won a razor thin victory.
