Adamek one week away from Vitali money fight

By Dan Ambrose: Tomasz Adamek’s moment of truth with WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko is only one week away now.

All the hard work that Adamek has put in facing older guys like 38-year-old Kevin McBride, 38-year-old Michael Grant, 42-year-old Andre Golota and 36-year-old Vinny Maddalone will have been worth it, because Adamek is getting his big payday fight against Vitali next Saturday night in front of his loyal Polish fans.

Ignoring the pundits who are giving Adamek about zero chance of winning, Adamek does have a few people – apart from his Polish fans – that think he’ll pull off a huge upset and beat the 6’7” 250 pound Vitali. I’m not one of them.

I see this fight for what it is – a mismatch. Maybe if I had only looked at Adamek’s fights at cruiserweight and light heavyweight, I could possibly see fit to pick him to win this fight. But unfortunately, I’ve seen all of Adamek’s fights at heavyweight and I’ve not been in the least impressed with him.

As far as I can tell, Adamek’s lacks power, speed and an ability to stand in the pocket to beat a good heavyweight. Adamek moves constantly and only pecks away at his opponents with shots here and there. That’s not how you beat a fighter like Vitali, I hate to say. That’s how you lose every round in a one-sided decision to Vitali.

The way to beat Vitali is to outwork him and I don’t see Adamek as capable of doing that with his hit and run style of fighting. For whatever reason, he seems unwilling or unable to stand in there with a big heavyweight and throw enough punches to dominate. He’s going to lose a week from now and lose badly to Vitali. But at least all that hard work that went into beating all of those older heavyweights won’t be for nothing because Adamek will get his big payday.
