Will Vitali carry Adamek until the later rounds of the fight?

Image: Will Vitali carry Adamek until the later rounds of the fight?By Dan Ambrose: It’s never nice to see huge mismatches like the September 10th fight between WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (42-2, 39 KO’s) against former light heavyweight and cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek (44-1, 28 KO’s) at the Stadion Miejski, in Wroclaw, Poland.

Adamek, 34, has a nice record on first glance, but if you really take a close look at the guys he’s beaten, it’s littered with sub-par opposition, especially at heavyweight. Adamek has taken a very safe path to a title shot against Vitali. It would be fair to say that Adamek got this fight more on what he did in the past at light heavyweight than what he’s accomplished at heavyweight.

The sad thing is we’re going to be seeing Adamek against his first real live quality opponent since he moved up in the division two years ago and it’s not going to be pretty watching Adamek flounder. It’s like taking someone with minimal swimming ability and throwing him in the middle of a huge lake and telling them to swim to the shore a mile away. He’s just not going to do well at all. This fight reminds me so much of Vitali’s fight against Albert Sosnowski last year in May.

I have no idea why Vitali selected the nearly bottom ranked Sosnowkski to fight, but whatever the case it looked like Vitali was just carrying the guy round after round instead of trying to fight hard and finish him off. Vitali didn’t seem to really get serious until the 10th round, when he suddenly opened up with a handful of shots that took Sosnowski out. I hope we’re not going to see the same thing from Vitali against Adamek on September 10th, but I suspect we just might.

I see Adamek as being about the same level as Sosnowski in talent at heavyweight but with less power. Adamek isn’t going to give Vitali any problems because he’s not powerful or big. He’s smaller than Sosnowskski but with less power. Do the math. It’s going to be a slaughter and unless Vitali carries the guy, we’re going to see another 1st or 2nd round knockout for Vitali in this one.
