Ward may opt not to fight Bute after he trounces Froch in October

By Scott Gilfoid: Photo: Casino/Showtime – People have been naturally assuming that WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (24-0, 13 KO’s) will move on to take on IBF super middleweight belt holder Lucian Bute (29-0, 23 KO’s) after Ward does away with World Boxing Council (WBC) super middleweight champion Carl Froch on October 20th in Atlantic City.

However, that might not be the case. Ward and his promoter are considering other names out there for after the Froch fight, most notably against the winner of the Mikkel Kessler vs. Robert Stieglitz fight, which takes place on November 5th in Copenhagen, Denmark. Besides the winner of that fight, Andre and Anthony Dirrell are both potential options for Ward, as is the winner of the Bernard Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson in October.

Anyone of those fighters would be just as good if not better for Ward than taking on a pretty much unknown Canadian fighter Bute. To be sure, Bute is popular among hardcore boxing fans but casual fans in the U.S don’t have clue one who the guy is. If they have seen him fight it’s been against poorly matched opposition in one-sided fights, because that’s all Bute has been facing since he captured his IBF belt.

I applaud Ward. He doesn’t need to waste time fighting a guy that fans don’t recognize. He would be better off takiong on the Dirrell brothers, Kessler-Stiegliz or Dawson-Hopkins winner.

Lucian Bute was doped against Andrade people says.
I would like to know, if thats why he never fights?

He hasn’t fought 30 fights prof yet, are all east european boxers doped?

I hope Lucian Bute is not doped, cause he is my favorite over Froch

  • Maek Tzechnak says:

No I respect him, but doping rumors hanging over Lucian Bute is not good for boxing.

Also Andre Ward was on contact with Dr. Conte..

I have no respect for dopers, but I would like to see Ward vs Bute.

Bute is my favorite, he is the future in boxing.. If he didn’t dope of course

  • silvercat says:

no interest any where in Ward too boring and dull career over.

  • the rabbit says:

  • silvercat says:

if the fight is in Oakland it is on.

the casual boxing fan is crying out for the type of fighter that is typified by froch, a bit of a slugger, lacking finesse to a degree, but a true warrior and an incredibly entertaining fighter. this ward is boring as hell to watch. that fight against bika was pathetic. he may be fast and im not doubting he has defensive skills, but come on. i dont dislike the guy as a person, he seems ok, but he is boring to watch. i would bet that a lot of the klitschkos haters who claim they are boring to watch on the one hand, rate ward highly on the ohter, the only difference being ward is nowhere near the dominant force the klitschkos are in the respective wieght

  • Duran's the man says:

Dodging Bute has become a hobby it seems. An understandable one indeed. Bute will fight a LHW next since the SMW are not up to it other than Froch.

  • Maek Tzechnak says:

What is it with all you Bute-haters?

Lucian Bute on doping?? frensh newspaper accuses him but evidence??

  • david haye says:

froch is the gold ticket not ward the head butter or them dougies the dirrell dummies as for kessler he couldnt last the super 6 after fvroch wrote him off and has told people he wont fight froch again.

  • bomber says:

Bute will have to fight outside Montreal, where he has never won! Bute has a chance only because he is a southpaw, but Ward will not fight him at this point. Ward has more options with a lot more money on the table. Bute can remain unbeaten and unknown until he fights outside the Montreal Mafia.

Ward is going DOWN for the count

  • polo says:

martinez not going back up so fight wont happen. Dont see ward doing a catch weight. And bute is a nobody who hasnt faced anyone so anyone who sais ward is scared of him is an idiot.

  • Pepemaster says:

If he don’t fight Bute after the Supersix he will never have the chance to tell that he is the best SMW because he have to beat Bute the be the best. And you know what ? Bute will KO him.

  • paul says:

Froch vs Bute = more excitement

  • Hand Punch says:

He doesn’t want to end up KTFO, that’s understandable.

Props to Johnson for taking the chance and his career ending payday.

  • Tony Y says:

    after? too much presuming

  • Kid Azteca says:

Seems it’s Goosen who doesn’t want the fight.
    Ward will make it happen.

  • Taj says:

I would take a fight with Martinez….or pursue one…more lucrative then Bute or Kessler.
