Image: Tyson Fury upset that 40-year-old Martin Rogan refused his offer to fight him on 9/17By William Mackay: Tyson Fury (15-0, 10 KO’s) isn’t pleased that 40-year-old former heavyweight Prizefighter tourney winner Martin Rogan (14-2, 7 KO’s) refused his “massive offer” to fight him on September 17th at the Kings Hall,in Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK. Fury, 23, for some reason really wants to fight the much older Rogan instead of a younger live body that could actually have a chance to beat him. I’m really broken up about Rogan declining Fury’s offer. Fury needs to get with it and fight guys a couple classes up.

Rogan hasn’t done a whole lot since being beaten in back to back fights by British heavyweight Sam Sexton in 2009. Rogan has won two fights since then against guys that few boxing fans have ever heard of in Yavor Marinchev (5-20, 4 KO’s) and Werner Kreiskott (11-17-1, 8 KO’s). I guess Fury doesn’t care much who he faces in his next fight in Ireland, as long as their Irish and have a winning record. That’s kind of disappointing that he’s willing to take a huge step down from his last fight against Dereck Chisora.

Fury said this to thesun.co.uk: “I’m very disappointed in Rogan because he was at my fight with Chisora in London and said right after that he wanted to face me. He was made a massive offer, he was getting the chance to fight in Belfast, he said he was going to beat me senseless and yet he walked away.”

Obviously the money wasn’t as “massive” as Fury thinks it is. I can’t see a fighter like Rogan, who has a day job, turning down huge money if it were really that big. Fury needs to take on guys around his own age or least below 40. He seems to have lowered the bar after the Chisora fight. It’s time to move it back up and not waste time on aging guys.
