Image: Prescott: Khan is a fraud and a punkBy William Mackay: Colombian knockout artist Breidis Prescott (24-2, 19 KO’s) had some choice words to say about WBA Super World light welterweight champion Amir Khan, who Prescott destroyed in one round three years ago. Prescott has zero respect for Khan because he never attempted to avenge his knockout loss. Prescott sees Khan as a fake, a fighter that isn’t the genuine article.

In an interview by writer Keith Teceira at 8countnews.com, Prescott said “I want Khan on December 10th. Khan to me is a fraud. I have no respect for a man so arrogant. All great fighters always have one thing in their mind and that’s revenging their losses and Khan has showed no interest in stepping back in the ring with me. He’s a modern day punk and I would crush him again.”

Prescott fights Paul McCloskey on September 10th in a WBA light welterweight title eliminator in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Prescott isn’t worried about McCloskey in the slightest, noting that he can’t punch his way out of a wet paper bag and he’s hoping McCloskey doesn’t choose to run all night long. McCloskey isn’t much of a runner. He instead moves in circles and uses a lot of torso movement to avoid shots. He’s helped in that he’s been facing domestic and European level opposition his entire career. He hasn’t faced any big punchers at all. Khan was the biggest puncher he’d ever faced and McCloskey didn’t even try to throw any shots against Khan until the 5th, and he took shots when that happened. Against Prescott, you can expect even less offense from McCloskey because he’ll feel the power and won’t want to take any chances that he could get hurt.

Prescott’s goal is to fight Khan again in the future, knock him out and become the main guy at light welterweight. The chances of Khan opting to fight Prescott again are extremely low to the point of being laughable. Khan is content with being knocked out and seems to have made peace with the fact that he got destroyed. But instead of acknowledging that he faced someone he probably will never be able to beat, Khan thinks he would easily beat Prescott in a rematch and doesn’t want to waste time fighting him again.

Khan might as well do this with Floyd Mayweather Jr. as well, because he’s going to lose badly when the time comes to face him. It’s better if Khan trick himself into thinking he’s better and doesn’t need to waste time fighting him. He can then tell the boxing public this and see how many followers he gets. I don’t think too many people are buying that Khan will beat Prescott again. My guess is they see Khan as being afraid and not willing to take chances.
