Mosley spars with Gesta at the Wildcard gym

By Chris Williams: Shane Mosley is the latest one to get in the act of sparring light welterweight prospect Mercito Gesta (22-0, 12 KO’s), according to examiner.com. The 39-year-old Mosley dropped by the Wild Card gym and volunteered to spar with the listed 5’7″ Gesta, who looks closer to 5’5″ as far as I can tell.
Here’s what Parra said: “Shane actually rushed him a little bit. He wanted to test him. You could see the veteran moves but I think Mercito surprised him a little bit. He was impressed afterwards…Shane said ‘Man, he reminds me of Manny.”
I wonder if Mosley trying for a change of luck. He’s been struggling as of late in fights against Sergio Mora, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. What better way to get off to a fresh start than to pick out a smaller inexperienced guy like Gesta to go in and wallop. I don’t see any similarities between Gesta and Pacquiao whatsoever other than them both being short and Filipino. Pacquiao is much faster, far busier, much better on his feet and a better fighter defensively. If you take away all those things, yeah, I guess you can see Gesta and Pacquiao are a lot alike.
Gesta recently sparred with Jose Benavidez, a 19-year-old unbeaten light welterweight that trainer Freddie Roach is very high on right now. The 23-year-old Gesta looked terrible against the much younger Benavidez.

you can hear it in his voice. he has sustained brain damage and is headed toward what ali and roach have progressed to. needs to hang it up. call it a day. judge said his ex wife could not get any of the money he made from the manny or floyd fight so he is good. guess he wants some more with the help of some of that ariza juice….

Astig, Chris writes in a controversial manner…in bloggers terms. This style of writing attracts all those that disagrees with him and hopefully will get their friends to check out the post by linking back—known as link bait in this case…. which will also means the more popular this site will become.
I think Mosley could still be a force, not at the top level but he could beat guys like Berto and Ortiz still, maybe go down some and beat Rios.
gesta is not as good as what they expected him to do in sparring againts the even 39 year old mosley,. he still needs more fights in order for him to catch up with those higher ranks boxer at light welterweigt..
Mosley should just hang up tha gloves.

i like the question what does chris have against filipino. for me the answer is filipinos are light colored that chris. bwa ha. ha ha. ha. and filipinos are far better of tha chris bwahaha ha ha ha
Chrissy always writes negative articles about Filipino pugs. That’s his way of generating audiences/readers of this site. This writer lacks reasoning power and seems with poor education but still he attracts so many readers because of his articles. A good strategy for a shallow-minded writer.

benavides is a future world champ i have seen videos of him tearing up amir khan and manny these videos are not on youtube but he tore them up especially khan .
Good to hear Shane is still keeping himself in the picture.
Must be awesome for the young guy to get to spar with a legend like Mosley.
