Image: McCloskey's fans have an after-party planned for after the Prescott fightBy Scott Gilfoid: I never thought I’d see Paul McCloskey’s (22-1, 12 KO’s) fans talking about an after party for his September 10th fight against Breidis Prescott (24-2, 19 KO’s). That’s got to be one of the worst ideas I could ever think of. Can you imagine what a McCloskey after party is going to be like after gets knocked cold by Prescott in the 2nd or 3rd round?

It’s going to be as quiet as a library except for maybe some sobs and blowing of noses. I wish I could be a fly on the wall for that affair. Let’s be real about this: McCloskey is going to get destroyed by Prescott in their fight at the Odyssey Arena, Belfast, Northern Ireland. This is McCloskey’s home fight, but it wish I could say it will matter for him. It won’t make a difference.

His Irish fans will be screaming like mad for a couple of rounds until Prescott catches up to McCloskey and knocks him clean out with a Julian Jackson-like right hand or left hook to the head. That’s what makes Prescott so dangerous. He punches equally hard with either hand, and can even hurt with his jab. Just look at what he did to Amir Khan. He had him staggering with a jab and leveled him with a left hook.

But let’s get back to this idea of an after party for McCloskey. Do you know how stupid that is? Unless Irish fighters are in the habit of having parties after they get knocked out, I think this is a terrible idea. You don’t plan parties unless you’ve got a very good chance of winning, and McCloskey’s chances are slim and none. If I was to be kind, I would give him like a 5% chance but that’s me bending over backwards for some mercy kindness. In all honesty, he’s got like a 1% chance and that’s only if he gets one of those handy dandy home town decisions where Prescott knocks him down three or four times and still ends up losing.

I had Prescott winning his fight against Kevin Mitchell in 2009, but Prescott made thee mistake of fighting Mitchell in his home country of England. Man, it would probably a knockout to get a win on that night. I had Prescott winning 9 rounds to 3, and I’m being real here. McCloskey winning one of those kinds of decisions is the only way I can see him getting a ‘W’ but he’s not going to get the chance because Prescott is going to separate him from his senses on September 10th.

It’s going to be a lot of crying at that party. I wish I could slip in, and have some of that good scotch and mingle with the locals for the heck of it.
