Froch: Ward isn’t as fast as Andre Dirrell, and I easily beat Dirrell

By Scott Gilfoid: Photo: Casino/Showtime – WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (24-0, 13 KO’s) carried himself with class and dignity at the London press conference with WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (28-1, 20 KO’s) to promote their Super Six finals fight on October 29th. While Froch was unleashing with both barrels on Ward verbally, Ward sat there bravely, taking Froch’s barbs without firing back.
Here’s what Froch said “I have not been impressed with Andre and his level of opposition. Look at is record. He’s fought good fighters but not at the level where we are now. The only opponent that is up there on his record is Mikkel Kessler. And I watched that fight. I didn’t care for it, to be honest. I didn’t like that Mikkel had to travel with this title only to have Andre throwing his head in there, causing the cuts and such…I am not worried about Ward. He has no power whatsoever. And his hand speed, sure it’s fast, but even he’ll tell you it’s not as fast as Andre Dirrell’s. And I handled Dirrell quite easily.”
Can you believe that? Froch handling Dirrell? No way! Froch lost that fight or should have lost it. I’ve never seen such a terrible decision in my life. I had Dirrell winning 8 rounds to 3 with 1 even. It was a total mismatch with Dirrell schooling Froch and then getting the business. The fight took place in Froch’s home city of Nottingham, England, and it looked like a hometown decision to me. Showtime saw Dirrell winning, and many of the fans from both the U.S and England had Dirrell winning. Froch should have a loss on his record for that fight but instead a gift.
Ward totally dominated Kessler from start to finish, beating Kessler even easier than Dirrell beat Froch. It was a total schooling and the the couple of head butts that occurred had no bearing to the outcome of the fight. I see that as just as an excuse for Kessler fans not wanting to come to terms with the reality that he got beaten and broken down by Ward. Froch is kidding himself if he believes that Ward won because of the head butts. He won because of his amazing talent, just as he’ll whip Froch on October 29th because of his talent.

If Froch had fought Dirrell anywhere besides England, Dirrell would have won.

Well Froch is correct in that Ward has NO POWER AT ALL, he does have some nice hand and foot speed(with an emphasis on foot speed) He is a typical American black fighter that will stick and move and refuse to exchange because of his fear of being KO’ed on a large stage. The one problem I see for him is that Froch has the longer jab (stiffer too) and could drop a power shot on Ward that he has not felt at this level yet. It should be an entertaining fight once Ward tuckers out from all of the running and has to fight. Probably will be Froch by TKO or decision.
Carl is trying to get under his skin, it’s not his usual style. He usually give the other fighter respect. He was very lucky to get the home town verdict against Dirrell and he knows it! Moaning about press,he doesn’t seem his self, doubt maybe?
So froch humiliated ward did he, in your words. I agree scott froch did humiliate him and ward looked scared as hell sitting there not knowing what to do.

what the heck is all the American Hate about???? Come Fight night may the best man win I personally don’t like that Froch is so arrogant even though he’s not quite as talented as he thinks, and by the way anybody that saw the Direll fight knows he got robbed, Even Ray Charles saw that!!!!!!

If I had $1.00 for everytime Scott cried about the correct decision given to Froch against Direll I would be a rich man.
The fight was 2 years ago Scotty, Froch has fought 3 times since then!!!!! Get over it.

I like Froch because is a warrior but in this fight he must have a good game plan to KO Ward because is gonna be very difficult !

I’m a Yank who thinks this will be a good fight. Froch has a good work rate, a study chin, and throws good combinations. Plus, he’s an inch taller and will enjoy a few inches in reach. Ward is coming in with a ton of confidence, is well schooled and has deceptive power (he wore King Arthur down). I think Ward will do well in the early and middle rounds, but think Froch could hurt him late. Prediction: Ward guts it out and wins a close decision.

I think these two are more similar than their fans are willing to admit. Both guys have beaten everyone they needed to beat to get here though. Both guys have a way of disarming their opponents by making them fight the wrong type of fight. I see this as more of an intriguing chess match than a barnburner. I’m picking Ward by close decision.
Carl Froch has improved steadily in his last few fights. He is a real warrior. Froch has that intangible quality called guts.
I think Froch will win this one on guts.
I genuinely belive froch will win this fight.don’t get me wrong it is no walk in the park but i do think ward has been overrated bcoz of hiss win against kessler.froch wins by decision.
