The problem is Froch has little chance of getting that unification bout with Bute unless the Canadian based Bute decides he’d rather take fighter coming off of a loss than fighting someone who is winning. Ward and his promoter aren’t targeting Bute next, and note there are other important fights that they’d like to go after. As such, perhaps Bute may take interest in fighting a beaten Froch, although I wouldn’t hold my breath in that happening.

It would be nice if Froch could get the Bute fight, because it would be interesting to see how Froch does against a mobile fighter with power like Bute. We already saw Froch struggle badly against Andre Dirrell in 2009, winning what many boxing fans saw as a gift decision while fighting in his home city of Nottingham, England.

Unfortunately, Froch probably won’t get anywhere near fighting Bute after he loses to Ward., I mean it’s a nice goal to want to fight Bute, but I think Froch, who is the underdog in the Ward fight, would be smarter to be eying a good backup plan for a rebuilding type of fight after he gets soundly beaten on October 29th. I think Froch would do well to fight someone like Paul Smith or Edison Miranda. Those would be a couple of excellent choices for Froch to take coming off of a loss.
