By Danny Burns: 41 have tried and 41 have failed, to say newly crowned W.B.C champion vicious Victor Ortiz (29-2-2, 22 KO’s) is entering the dragons den come 17th September is an understatement. There standing in his way is future hall of famer Floyd Mayweather jnr (41-0, 25 KO’s). the man who calls himself “Money Mayweather” is taking an awkward fight against a young hungry fighter to prove he’s still the best pound for pound king in the sport of boxing.

After coming off a career best performance by stepping up to welterweight for the first time to tackle Andre Berto (27-1, 21 KO’s) in which would be a candidate for fight of the year, Victor Ortiz burst on to the world scene by wining the fight by unanimous decision (115-110, 114-112 and 114-111) which included 4 knockdowns. On that night a new star of boxing came of age and proved he can compete against the best out there.

The king of boxing returns from a lengthy lay off to tackle the young Ortiz, Floyd Mayweather jnr has been in super fights before and knows what it takes to be the best. With Ortiz being a southpaw the automatic reaction is that this is a tune up fight for a potential super fight with Manny Pacquiao (53-3-2, 38 KO’s). Ortiz can cause problems for Mayweather if he produces the same best career performance that he done against Andre Berto but to win I think he’ll need more than that. Floyd Mayweather is a great fighter and no one will question that what he has done for boxing in his career is phenomenal, moving up the weight divisions winning world titles as if he was a kid buying a new toy. Maywether has proved he’s the best and still wants to prove himself. Iv herd over the last few weeks by watching interviews that Mayweather is getting older and his age is going to catch up with him, listen age doesn’t matter look at Bernard Hopkins at the age of 46 years old this year he became the oldest world champion to win a world title in the history of the sport of boxing beating the great George foreman’s record. He’s proved that age is just a number and if you keep yourself in good condition there’s no reason to fear anyone.

This fight has the makings of being a classic will Victor Ortiz shock the world once again or will Floyd Mayweather jnr once again prove he’s still the best pound for pound fighter on the planet? Time will tell…

Prediction – Floyd Mayweather Jnr to win by unanimous decision.
