McCloskey vs. Prescott: Paul thinks he’ll make a name for himself against Breidis
By Scott Gilfoid: Paul McCloskey (22-1, 12 KO’s) is heading towards a bad beating on September 10th against Breidis Prescott (24-2, 19 KO’s) in a WBA light-welterweight title eliminator bout at the Odyssey Arena, Belfast, Northern Ireland. McCloskey has the home town advantage, and that sometimes can mean at least a better than average chance of winning a home town decision.
“It’s a fight which is going to make people stand up and take notice of Pail McCloskey,” McCloskey said to Sky Sports News. Oh, I’m sure that boxing fans will notice of McCloskey in this fight, but only because of how bad he’s going to get knocked out. I know McCloskey is using Prescott to try and look good against a fighter that knocked Khan out in one round three years, but McCloskey picked the wrong fighter to do that against. Instead of Prescott, McCloskey needed to fight someone more harmless like Paulie Malignaggi.
I don’t even think McCloskey could win that fight, although I’d give him a decent chance if he would try to throw some punches for a change. I think McCloskey is more of a defensive guy that just tries to make people miss and isn’t capable of doing both offense and defense. It won’t work regardless against Prescott, because he’ll catch up to McCloskey sooner or later and knock him out cold. If McCloskey comes at Prescott and actually tires to throw some punches, it’s going to make Prescott’s job so much easier.
