Judah: I’m going to be a monster against Khan

By Sean McDaniel: IBF light welterweight champion Zab Judah (41-6, 28 KO’s) plans on being a monster in the ring with WBA World light welterweight champion Amir Khan (25-1, 17 KO’s) in their big fight on July 23 at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Judah feels that Khan and his trainer Freddie Roach have been wasting their time in studying old video of his fights, because he’s going to be a changed fighter with a new style in this fight. Judah could be right about that. He’s only been training with Pernell Whitaker for a short period of time, and already Whitaker has made huge changes to Judah’s fighting style.

We saw a little bit of that in Judah’s last fight against Kaizer Mabuza. However, Whitaker, a former world champion noted for his excellent defensive skills, is good at dissecting his opponents and coming up with strategies to beat them. This is what Whitaker did during his career and he usually always came out on top until he started to age. Judah still has his boxing skills mostly intact and if he has the right game plan for Khan, he could pull off a minor upset.

“A lot of things have been changed over the years so I’m pleased to see Amir and Freddie Roach have been watching my old tapes,” Judah said in an article at the dailymail.co.uk. “They’ve been learning about the old Zab Judah. The Zab Judah who’s coming to the ring on July 23 is a monster…I’m definitely going to take him to school. After Saturday night he’ll figure out that Golden Boy set him up by putting him in a position he shouldn’t have been in.”

Judah could be right. He’s got the better boxing skills than Khan and doesn’t make a lot of amateurish mistakes like Khan does. However, Khan has the size and speed advantage, as well as the youth. That could be enough if Judah doesn’t land something big to take him out of his game and out of the fight.
