Image: Haye vs. Klitschko – The PredictionBy John F. McKenna (McJack): The fight that boxing fan s have been waiting so long for between WBA Heavyweight Champion Davie “Hayemaker” Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) and IBF, IBO, WBO and Ring Magazine Heavyweight Champion Wladimir “Dr. Steelhammer” Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) is finally here.

The fight has generated great interest around the world and is the most anticipated Heavyweight Championship battle in many years. The Haye – Klitschko fight on Saturday night has captured the imagination of even the casual boxing fan.

Much of the interest in the Haye – Klitschko fight has been generated by the UK’s David Haye. His trash talk and antics were already well known to boxing fans before he signed to fight Wladmir Klitschko, but over the last few months Haye has taken the trash talking to a new level. There are many who think the “Hayemaker” talked his way into the Klitschko fight and that he is a loudmouth who needs to be severely thrashed and taught some humility.

Whatever you say about David Haye, it cannot be denied that for the first time in years he has people talking about a Heavyweight Championship fight. Almost single handedly Haye has reenergized boxing.

Let’s take a look at David Haye’s chances against Wladimir Klitschko. Haye has a very good boxing record, both as an amateur and as a professional. Haye moved up to heavyweight after being a dominant Cruiserweight Champion and won the WBA Heavyweight title in 2009 by defeating Nikolai Valuev.

Haye and Klitschko both have suspect chins, so in that department there is not much to differentiate between the two.

Haye has explosive speed and power in his right hand. Haye will attempt to get to Klitschko and deliver punches in bunches, realizing that he is not going to take Vladimir out with one or two shots. Haye has to repeat the process of delivering punches in bunches again and again in order to be successful. If Haye is able to wobble or hurt Klitschko he will move in quickly to finish the job. Haye has confidence in his ability as a fighter and that is one thing he has going for him. He and trainer/manager Adam Booth feel they have devised a formula that will ensure victory for Haye. Haye has not exhibited a great jab in previous fights nor does he appear to have great power in his left hand.

Vladimir Klitschko has been a dominant Heavyweight Champion for the past six years and experience will definitely be on his side. He will attempt to keep his potent left jab in the face of David Haye in an effort to soften him up to deliver his right hand or left hook.

Wlad will employ the grab and hold technique on Haye when Haye attempts to move inside. If Wladimir is able to get his jab working before Haye has an opportunity to tag him, it is going to be very difficult for the “Hayemaker” to prevail.

Anything can happen when two heavyweights get into the ring, but is my belief that Wladmir has too much experience, is too strong and is too hard to get to, coupled with the fact that he has an overwhelming arsenal that will be just too much for David Haye to cope with.

Vladimir to win by KO in the mid to late rounds.
