Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao and the Random Blood tests

By Babatis Banda: It seems with each passing day things are becoming more and more interesting, if not comical, about the hottest issue that has plagued boxing in recent years, RBT. We all agree, court or no court, this issue will continue to grow stronger and stronger, louder and louder.

It is no longer an issue of why Floyd asked for RBT on Manny, but why Manny won’t take the test. With the firing of Koncz (if true), we are yet to witness another twist in this, somewhat, interesting story. My feeling is that, this issue will never die a natural death even if the court found Floyd guilty of something, and even if the court had to send Floyd away, in solitary confinement for 25 years.

It appears that cracks are beginning to appear in Manny’s camp. With the issue of RBT hanging over their heads, the cracks are only expected to grow bigger and bigger and if not addressed, a few individuals could get swallowed up. Actually, the whole episode may turn nasty….very nasty with a huge backlash from the boxing community. This is not to say that Manny and team are guilty of any wrong doing, but that they certainly mismanaged the whole affair in the hope that it will die a natural death, but it didn’t. This whole issue is now sticking on Manny like ‘super glue’.

The whole issue is so stinky that Manny is now choking. Floyd Maywether junior is such a cunning businessman. He understands the value of hype, the value of winning the match before even stepping in the ring and controversy does that better. When the Mayweathers brought up these issues, it was Manny’s opportunity to turn it against them, by agreeing to the tests and making them look so bad in the process, but he didn’t and part of the problem is that Manny is not in full control of himself. Time has come for Manny to be man of his own, take charge of things before his reputation goes begging. The funny thing is that, it takes only one small twist to sway people’s minds and beliefs.

So far, hats off to Floyd. Some people think he talks too much, some are even disillusioned to believe that he is twisted in his thinking, but Floyd knows how to, and when to rattle his opponents. He makes them so angry that they lose control of themselves in the ring and they fall prey to his traps.

When it comes to boxing, he is all thinking. So far, by stating that Manny is next after Ortiz, he has raffled the Manny team to an extent that they started debating who will conduct the RBT, which they swore, in the first place never concede to. It is yet not clear what their position is, because some say the Pacman has agreed to RBT, some suggest there could be cut-off dates and some still say no testing at all. We are left wondering the exact cause of Koncz firing, but one thing is for sure, the unholy alliance between Manny, Arum and Roach will explode with bad consequences for the boxing sport.
