Dirrell shows his stuff, destroys Engel in two!

By Scott Gilfoid: Showing amazing speed and power that the other super middleweights would literally drool over, unbeaten contender Anthony Dirrell (23-0, 20 KO’s) added another knockout to his growing list by flattening the battle hardened Kevin Engel (18-5, 15 KO’s) in the 2nd round of a scheduled 10 round bout on Friday night at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon, California.

Dirrell, the younger slightly more powerful brother of the talented Andre Dirrell, knocked Engel down twice in the 2nd round with powerful right hands. After the 2nd knockdown, which was a beautiful body shot, Engel hit the canvas and the fight was halted at 1:44 of the round. Dirrell is a lot like his brother Andre, but he likes to focus more on his offensive game more than Andre and is a beast with his power and speed.

This win puts the super middleweight division on notice that Anthony is ready to move in and take over the division once he can get some of these bigger names to give him a shot.

In other action on the card, undefeated Kurtiss Colvin (6-0, 5 KO’s) stopped Cleveland Ishe (3-2, 1 KO’s) in the 3rd round. Colvin knocked Ishe down once in the third round, and after he got up, Colvin snowed Ishe under with shots until the fight was halted.
