Image: Chisora: Fury is a David Haye wannabeBy William Mackay: British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Dereck Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) defends his title against big Tyson Fury (14-0, 10 KO’s) in what is clearly the most important fight of the 27-year-old Chisora’s career. If he wins this fight, he may get IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko finally and a chance to get a bit of glory and recognition.

Chisora doesn’t care much for the 23-year-old Fury, and sees him as a talentless fake along the same lines as David Haye. “I’m ready to knock out this useless lump once and for all,” Chisora said to thesun.co.uk. “He’s a David Haye wannabe – all mouth and no action.”

Fury has proven himself but only against one fighter – John McDermott – and that’s not exactly a world class opponent. But then again, neither is Chisora. The difference between Chisora and Fury could come down to power and not size like a lot of boxing fans think.

Fury does a poor job of using his power to his advantage in his fights. He’s like of like the 6’7″ heavyweight contender Alexander Dimitrenko the way that Fury gives up his height so easily and tends to fight at close range. But Dimitrenko at least tries to throw jabs while on the outside. Fury rarely jabs and doesn’t do a very good job of it. Chisora has enough power to give any fighter in the heavyweight division problems if he’s allowed to get in close and punch away on the inside. That’s why it’s crucial that Fury try to keep Chisora as far away as possible because he can’t win in a battle on the inside with Chisora. It’s just not going to happen.
