Bellew likely to face Cleverly next after poor performance against McKenzie
By William Mackay: Unbeaten Commonwealth light heavyweight champion Tony Bellew (16-0, 10 KO’s) will reportedly be the next opponent for World Boxing Organization (WBO) light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly (22-0, 11 KO’s) later on this year.
Bellew, who can punch a little, boxed the entire fight behind his jab and threw very few power punches. McKenzie missed much of the time with his shots and would occasionally throw a bomb that would connect but with little affect. Bellew was playing it safe from the start to ensure that he wasn’t going to get knocked down like he was in his last fight against McKenzie last year in December. Bellew was knocked down twice in that fight and came back to stop McKenzie in the 8th.
It was thought that the two fighters would have equally exciting rematch this time. However, Bellew had other ideas in mind and played it safe the entire fight and ended up stinking up the joint because he didn’t want to engage. Bellew did get the win, but it was such a poor performance from him that I can’t think of a worse opponent to take on the WBO champion Cleverly than Bellew.
Surely, there’s got to be at last 14 better options than this guy in the top 15, don’t you think? Cleverly needs to step it up and take on someone like Chad Dawson or Zsolt Erdei, both of which are ranked above Bellew. Of course, those guys would likely beat Cleverly but at least he would be a good fight. Cleverly already had an easy opponent in his last against Aleksy Kuziemski. It’s time to step it up and face some good fighters now.

I agree with most. This fight is a definite KO loss for Bellew!
bellew hasnt been tested yet, he hasnt fought any1 with pedigree, mckenzie has last 11 fights now so he isnt realy a test, i would like to see bellew against sum1 like tony jefferies or even enzo macc since he has dropped to light heavy! but he is defo not world level and never will be, just a mouthy scouser
I did laught when Bellew said to one of the Sky pundits that he’d ‘put on a masterclass’
Whatever mate, Cleverly would batter you
hahaha this lads a complete joke .. put on one of the worst fights iv ever seen on sky sports … and the fool had the cheak to call it a master class. id av bin ashamed to put on a fight like that infront of my own fans. cleverly shunt fight him its a complete waste of time the guy has no brains . no talent . hes just a hot head ..
Cleverly will batter this mouth piece about the full fight. It’s not often i dislike a British fighter because i like to support all my fellow Brits but some people don’t do themselves any favours. The way he was blowing his own trumpet after a poor performance last night was pretty laughable.
cleverly will serve Bellend a double butty!
You know what? Bellew CAN defeat Nathan, im very confident on that, HOWEVER he has not got ENOUGH experience yet to even think about fighting Cleverly. Good luck to him but he should keep his mouth shut and gain more experience.
There’s bad blood between the two so the fight makes some sense. Once Cleverly gets this flea out of his ear he can concentrate on bigger and better fights
bet your house, wife, kids and life on cleverly!!!! id even say by ko.
