According to news from Dan Rafael, HBO agreed to show the after taking a pass on the very same fight last year when it would have been a unification bout.

However, due to Berto’s exciting performance in losing his IBF title to Victor Ortiz in April, HBO has decided to show another one of Berto’s fights. Hopefully, this fight will be an thrilling as the Ortiz-Berto fight, because a lot of boxing fans are going to be watching it with high expectations from Berto. The winner of the Berto-Zaveck fight will be defending the IBF title against mandatory challenger Randall Bailey, who will be fighting on the undercard of Berto-Zaveck. That’ll be interesting as well but unfortunately Bailey’s fight won’t be televised by HBO.

Zaveck, 35, will be fighting for the first time in the United States. Most of his previous bouts have taken place in either Germany or his home country of Slovenia. Zaveck, 5’7 1/2″, is about the same size as Berto and has good power. He doesn’t have Berto’s speed, though, and that could be a problem for him if Berto is able to get to him early. But if Zaveck can apply pressure the way that Ortiz did we could see a minor upset on September 3rd. It wouldn’t be a major one because Berto has already shown in the past that he’s beatable if you go to war with him and are willing to take some shots to land your own.
