Maidana vs. Guerrero on August 27th in San Jose, CA

By Dan Ambrose: Two time world champion Robert Guerrero (29-1-1, 18 KO’s) has reportedly signed the contract to face WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (30-2, 27 KO’s) on August 27th at the HP Pavilion, in San Jose, CA. Maidana has agreed to the contract and will be signing as well for the fight.

Supposedly, the winner of this fight could wind up as the regular World Boxing Association champion with the winner of the Amir Khan vs. Zab Judah bout on July 23 being pushed to the WBA Super WBA light welterweight champion. Khan is the current WBA champ. It all sounds silly with two champions occupying the same belt, along with somebody else coming along eventually to claim Maidana’s WBA light welterweight interim title.

Maidana will have a hard time beating Guerrero because he’s a lot better boxer than he is and has an excellent chin. Maidana will have a puncher’s chance of winning this fight but not much more than that. Guerrero probably won’t move as much as Khan did in his narrow 12 round decision win over Maidana last year, but he’s going to be a big problem for the Argentinian because of his work rate. It’s a bad match-up for Maidana, but one he can win if he puts pressure on Guerrero the same way that Orlando Salido in beating him in the past.

The way to beat Guerrero is to walk him down and hit him as hard possible with every punch. This is what Salido did in his win over him and Guerrero looked uncomfortable in that fight. However, Salido is faster than Maidana and a better fighter. Maidana is going to have to be in excellent condition to win this fight.

The ghost will take care of business and will kO Maidana or is it Madonna. With every fight the ghost takes on he is getting better and looks stronger. The Bay Area has your back, ghost. Shout out to my cousin Marlene! Hey, Marlene tell your cousin the Ghost to knock him out!

I like Maidana in this fight just because he is the more exciting fighter. Guerrero is tallented but I strongly feel he will hit the canvas multiple times.

“knockdowns are scored 10 – 8.. plaus points are deducted for foul play.. cmon kid!”

    You can’t get above a 10 if you win the round. 12 times 10 = 120.

Im argentinian so my hearth go for maidana, but if you cannot take down an one eye morales… well fighting guerrero is suicide

  • Micky says:

I am going with Maidana. Great fight will be!! Props to both fighters for fight against the best they can. Khan should learn from them. If you are a champ you should fight the best available.
    Agree with @ rah

  • Evil Scotsman says:

    Guerrero by embarrasment 120-108

  • Big Boxing Fan says:

    How do you get 122 – 108?

  • mario says:

Salido beat guerrero but it was changed to a no contest after he tested positive but either way he beat him in scorecards by pressurin him I don’t see how he will handle maidana

Khan would have got slated for fighting guererro. cherry picker it would have been. anyway, guererro all the way, he has the size and his sort of style is a nightmare for maidana. Katsidis is a better brawler than maidana and look what guererro did to him. i see this a one sided fight unless maidana can catch him.

I’m a Maidana fan, but I’m going with the Ghost all the way…… Also, can goldenboy please give us ‘The Ghost’ vs Khan… I would love to see ‘The Ghost’ take out Khan.

  • Vince Vegas says:

Guerrero’s wife was seriously ill for a couple years, which understandably took his focus off being 100% for every fight.

But I understand she’s healthy & he’s been looking good, on a roll.

    I going with ‘The Ghost’

  • Mr.Cali North Star says:

Ghost to much of a boxer for maidaina. Going be a great fight though! Ghost a good boxer and maidaina a great brawler. Don’t miss this one people, cause it’s going be fantastic!!!

  • ding ding says:

I like Maidana, like you all say – fights anyone / anywhere

I just think the ghost will have him, he’ll box him for 12 rounds using his ability to try and claim a UD.. but I can still see Maidana taking a KO win

    Good match up.

  • BNB says:

Maidana keep fighting real fighter. I think the ghost beats him. Maidana is too slow. He relies on his power too much.

  • Adam T says:

This will be a good battle!! Guerro looked sharp against Katsidis!!

  • ste says:

@ rah. totally agree with you there. same as froch wont duck anyone and fight them any where. boxing need more fighter like maidana and froch.

  • Jac34 says:

    Toss up.

  • Rah says:

Love how maidana just fights the best out there regardless.. No cherry picking, no arguin over purses, venues, catchweights and what colour shorts the other is allowed to wear. Just trains hard, gets in and has a battle. I’d rather watch him over khan anyday

  • kidboxer says:

Madiana will win guerro has a shaky chin n has been hurt before he also shows the inability to knock his opponents out when thier hurt

  • They_Say_im_Gr8 says:

this will be a great match up looking forward to this 1

  • ste says:

id like maidana to win and khan to win then a rematch between the two fighters would be a good one.
