WORLD BOXING COUNCIL NEWS

May 26, 2011 – Mexico City. From WBC President Dr. José Sulaimán: The World Boxing Council (WBC) joins the state of Missouri, especially the city of Joplin, and all of the thousands of people who are suffering from the devastation of tornadoes throughout the Midwest in the United States.

On behalf of all the members of the WBC from 164 countries of the world, we join with sorrow all of those who have lost their lives due to the tragic forces of nature, and we extend our prayers hoping to bring prompt resignation and recovering to all.

The WBC is starting a relief fund for Joplin, Missouri, and will conduct several activities hoping to raise funds and materials helpful in these difficult times. We will start these actions during the NABF convention, which will be held in Atlantic City, New Jersey, from June 6 to 9.

The president of Association of Boxing Commissions, our friend Tim Lueckenhoff, had to stay for hours in an interior hallway of his office in Jefferson City, Missouri, during a threatening tornado that, thankfully, did not hit the town.

The WBC will modestly try to help to show the spirit of boxing people getting together in support of our friends.
